pulled this from the online catalog. They call it a Baldwin Motion Chevelle but it was originally sold by Curry Chevrolet. They talk about extensive Motion mods but all I see is a set of headers. Anybody know the details on this car? it looks great, love black cherry.

Off topic but Curry is still in business and is relatively unchanged since the 1970s.
I do not know the car.

I find it misleading. It's not a true motion-baldwin car and I am surprised R&S would not know the distinction.

John from R&S called me on Jan 4th to specifically ask me about this car. I told him just what others have said above and he said they would list it according so I too am confused.

It appears to me that whomever wrote out the brochure may have thought that "Baldwin Motion" could have been the name of one company.
In other words, they didn't know that Baldwin Chevrolet was a dealership and that Motion Performance was a seperate speed shop. The auction company may have not noticed this until it was to late.
I've seen plenty of instances were an outside source screwed things up because they didn't have a clue about the subject matter.
The brochure clearly states that the car was purchased at Curry Chevrolet. You would think that anyone who may be serious about buying this car is going to know basic history about a true Motion car purchased through Baldwin and one that was brought in from another dealership. I don't see a problem.

For a savy educated Baldwin-Motion buyer,I agree with you.
For a new uneducated Baldwin-Motion buyer,I forsee a car being returned to R&S,once it's been realized.
There is a difference in value between a car bought new @ Baldwin Chevrolet, then pushed over across the street to be modified by Joel Rosen @ Motion Performance, compared to a car bought new @ Curry Chevrolet, then shipped to be modified by Joel Rosen @ Motion Performance.
How much?...maybe this particular Chevelle will define.

That may have been true when the car was first brought to them but it was clarified prior to the brochure being written. Not a huge deal, I am just not understanding why the opinion was asked for, was explained completely and then not done that way.

I understand what you are saying about someone seeking advise and then something different being printed. That part doesn't make sense to me either.
I would consider myself new or a novice when it comes to Motion, Yenko, etc. super car collecting. That being said, with the book that Schorr has written and all the information that has been made available, a person would just about have to have their head buried in the sand not to know most of this.
I knew years ago that a car from Baldwin and modified by Motion was worth way more than a "walk in" car.
I guess if nothing was mentioned about the car coming from another dealership, I would be suspicious.
The thing I question is why would Rosen continue to keep the list of cars secret? Why not make them public?

Read the last line in the description:
It has Strato bucket seats, F41 special suspension, GW8 and G80 Positraction with 4.10 ratio axle, J50 and JL2 power brakes, power front disc brakes, LS6 454/450 HP 4-barrel engine, M22 HD 4-speed transmission, and Z15 SS 454 converter.
I wonder where I can get a Z15 converter? lol

<span style="color: #FF0000">Absolutely disagree..</span>
If a new vehicle was purchased/ordered from any dealership with specific intentions of a motion performance conversion/modifaction and soon to be owner had not taken possession until modifactions were completed, then in fact is a Motion car period!
If the Motion mods are not on dealership paperwork and arranged with dealer participation, it isn't the same man.

Agreed, it is a Motion car. But it's not a Baldwin-Motion car and that makes all the difference $$$$.

I agree. The way the description reads, the car was bought and then took to Motion Performance. So it's an "off the street" customer.
Still a very collectable car and I see no problem with it being real.
The only way to know for sure is if there was a list of known built cars. Of course if there was, then we would know how many and that one day they all may be accounted for. Then no more fees could be collected for verifying cars...hmmmm

Does this mean there's paperwork showing the dealer did indeed arrange the Motion mods for the customer?.
Did the vehicle owner pay the delivering dealer for the mods or Motion directly?.
And nothing against Joel but the way his certification process works seems to suggest it isn't a simple matter of looking up a Vin to check what was done and more likely boxes of old Shop Orders and/or files of incomplete info he peruses trying his best to discern whether he had his magic hands on specific cars in question or not?.

They knew enough to distinguish the Pilot LS6 as "<span style="font-style: italic">the first U.S. delivered LS6</span>"
keeping in mind there is a Canadian-delivered car with an earlier build date, a fact which I believe only came to light after the MCR story on the car. Beautiful resto on that pilot car by the way.
This Motion car must be a bolt of lightning if all those mods are still in place. Wonder what Joel used for an intake - 163? Edelbrock?

Joel doesn't release the vin list because he is and always has been a businessman and that list is very valuable.

I'm replying to clarify/remove statements added to my previous posting..
Regarding the added text, I know nothing of the Hoover show or any movies of recent years but do agree w/ concerns for Joel's info however again don't believe it's as simple as any original master Vin list of Motion cars existing in Joel or anyone elses' hands?.
Either way and cars aside, I wish the best of good health and happiness to Joel Rosen...long live the king!.

Thanks for the compliment Des, we appreciate any kind words or constructive ones for that matter.... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif
Regarding the "first (known and documented) US delivered" that is because both Mark and I insisted on it. Even then it was only recently changed in their wording. Neither of us have ever claimed what many ads have stated as it being the "first" but continue to get blamed for it. Anyone who has read the MCR article saw where I stated, "if there is an earlier one, bring it on", and thankfully Oliver did. Only Chevrolet knows for sure what car was the "first". I always new about the Canadian car but so many people on TC stated it was a fake and I had a hard time disagreeing based on the build sheet and time line not to mention interviews with Fran Preve. Now I am friends with Oliver and have a new found respect for he and his car and because of this article I had the good fortune to meet him at MCACN.

Odd that the Motion modded car was from Curry of Scarsdale and not Curry of Hempstead (which is just north of Baldwin).
The owner of Curry Hempstead just passed away (http://www.registercitizen.com/articles/2010/04/10/obituaries/doc4bc00837a5454499398905.txt) last year, he was the son of the founder of the Scarsdale dealership.

Actually, like this chevelle, my car was from Hempstead per the dealer and zone on the paperwork.
The only paperwork I have found on Curry shows the clinic at Curry Scarsdale and that old Curry ad.
Many people say that Curry had nothing to do with any HiPo mods, and even though I can't find the Hempstead ad's it would stand to make sense that as a dealership if one sold HiPo, the other would as well.
I am not close to Joel, but I wonder if he recalls how many (if any) Curry cars came through his shop.
Really cool to see another Curry car out there.
