View Full Version : Steering box off of 70 nova, dated 88th day, 1971
Have a manual steering box from a 70 big block Nova. I pulled it myself, so I know that is what it came from. However, I believe the box is dated 88th day of 1971. Look at the date code pic. A088-1
No pitman arm. The car had the steering wheel already removed whcn I got to it, so I have no idea how much play was in this box. Good at least for a core.
Shipping is probably more than the box, but will ship to your door for $35
Has the four mounting holes, even though only three are used on the Nova. Very common.

Sorry about that Richard. My sent items shows an email to you yesterday (26th) I will send you a pm. Maybe your computer just doesn't like me and I ended up in your junk or spam folder.
I believe you're right on this,as it was different in years prior.
Beginning in 1971,both Saginaw Gear plants re-formatted this code & used:
<span style="text-decoration: underline">Plant #2 used:</span>
First letter-shift.
Next 3 digits-day of year
4th digit-last digit of year assembled.
<span style="text-decoration: underline">Plant #7 used:</span>
1st digit-last digit of year assembled.
2nd digit-shift
Last 3 digits-day of year.
