I spoke to an owner of that car about 10 years ago. The Nickey paperwork was "lost in a move" or "thrown away by my ex-wife during our divorce" or "my dog ate it". Pick one. Asking price was 40k then.

what's with that grab bar?
The ad states that the trim tag shows the car as originally a 396/375 HP car. What?

It MUST be real, look at all the stickers! And those emblems, too.

I would think the guy to ask about the car would be Stefano. His name is mentioned in the auction.

First of all, yes I am very familiar with this Camaro and we did eventually purchase the car from Mills Chevrolet.
The eBay listing does not accurately portray the story and details as they were explained to us. The car was originally shipped to Nickey for inspection by the Nickey Registry members.
Second, we did not perform any of the restoration work on the car and left it very much like we got it from Mills.
Third, While there is a colorful "Nickey" story to go along with the car, we were not able to verify or document any Nickey status on the car whatsoever.
Finally, The car is not a rebody <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif
ps the grab bar is an "Oh Shyte" Bar.
I believe that we listed the car for sale here on Yenko a few years ago.

im with you..... all i see is a half tag. stunning lookin car tho. ive seen lesser cars go for 40k on BJ and mecum.
I commented on the 1st thread on the car here:

Here is what I wrote below. It seems it would have been worth it to include some of the ques that tipped people off on it being Nickey in the first place.
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: pxtx</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I don't get this restoration. I can't see anything uniquely Nickey. Modern bars, summit cover, stock type air cleaner. The car seems conflicted on what is supposed to represent. There are none of the special aftermarket tuning equipment commonly used by Nickey on the car.
If this was just a motor swap deal I don't get it. The story is that the original owner kept getting beat with his L78. Probably wasn't much of a wrench then. Paid for a 427 engine swap and a paint job and then what?
The car may have true history, but the way it's presented isn't really flattering the car. </div></div>

If this is the same Mills Chevrolet thats in the QCA they had a 68 Copo nova and maybe a 67 or 68 Yenko? These guys were hipo people and weren't that far from chitown. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

If the car doesn't gain too much more in price it will be a good buy even without any Nickey connection.

With this much effort in the auction I would guess the reserve will be quite a bit more.

Stefano was (is) there an L88 in the car with painted aluminum heads, iron heads or were 12.5:1 slugs put in an L72...I can't remember.

If I remember correct, the block was a later than 1969 block and Mills verified that the internals were L88 components. The heads were Iron.
It is the same MIlls Hi-Performance dealership. One of their customers purchased the car off eBay as a Nickey with no docs and had them go thru the car. He later traded it in to them on I believe a Z06 Corvette.

VIN 124379N549330
Car is also being advertised online @ $ 129 thou..
But whatever $, a whole lot less cars sell for waaay more every day!.
Aside from the L78 tag story and added bling etc, the car is cool also Stephano's blessing as stated seems to have a nice ring to it!.
Buy it right and enjoy the car makes the most sense, finding a more solid original Nickey connection later would be a plus!.
The only Mills connection is from ending up there later and not originally delivered there, correct?.

While some key components of the story did check out and the car could possibly have been a Nickey Shop built car, there is nothing to validate the story at this point.
NICB records had shown the car delivered to an Iowa dealership.
The original sheet metal and original interior condition helped support the low Midwestern salt belt miles.
Mills had nothing to do with the car when it was sold new. Their history with the car goes back approx 10 years.

Actually about 7 years ago, I began a project to keep track of the 69 L89's.
