Just for what it worth....this story is just about how Car guys help each other out.....Just a great car guy helping out story...
Now......For some of the new people here I built a 37 Ford street rod a couple of years ago and used a 2006 Pontiac GTO LS2/4L65E drive train......drive by wire, all the computers etc......I was unschooled in the complexity of computers and circuitry at the time and decided to install the GTO Dash Gauge Cluster that I built into the 37 dash.........That was the easy part....I had no idea of what it would take to get the cluster to work and be functional....after I got into it and had some conversations with John at Speartech (Speartech modified the factory harnesses and computer) I could see that I was in way over my head and got Dave (I'm Rare) involved and got out of the way.....LOL.....anyhow....between John and Dave and with the installation of various modules and wiring they were able to get the modules to talk to one another and we got almost all of the stock cluster functions to become operational........the one issue that no one was able to correct was the dreaded ABS fault......when the fault would come in there would be the constant "Beeping" and the fault would over ride the normal function and displays with the fault......But...I was so happy to have everything functioning that the annoying beeping become a normal part of driving the car.......
Now......A year later I get contacted by a Car Guy (Eric)
out in California and he found out about my issues thru some guys on the LS1Tech site.......He tells me he has figured out how to satify the demands of the ECM in looking for info from the wheel speed sensors and would I be interested in going thru the trial and effort to resolve the issues.....Of course I said...So..I did some testing of the system Voltages and got Ohm readings that Eric requested and directed on how to gather the info for, and sent the info to him.....because there are pieces and modules of the "Stock" GTO that are not in my system....it was the trial and error method......so....after i sent the info to Eric....he builds a temporary module that plugged into the OBD plug and I start the car and "Bingo"....the fault disappears........Wow!!!......
So....In conversation.....Eric noticed that the Air Bag light was lit........(he's on a mission now)......I sent him the Gauge Cluster (I bought a new Blue faced GTO cluster) to see if he can program the light out.........Nope!!.......I say, I don't care about the little light on, I super Happy that the faults are gone......Not good enough for him.....LOL......So...because my pieced together system is not 100% by the book......he sends me a Data collection logger and a website where I can download software for this device....so ...I take my Lap top and the device into the garage and plug it in...start the car and it collects all the communications between the computers and modules......I sent him the data and he can sit at home and study the info to figure out how to solve the problem.......Can you believe first of all.....having the knowledge and understanding to figure this out.......but....Mostly.....to help out a guy that's 2500 miles away that he doesn't know from Adam..............Real Car guys are "GREAT".........and he won't take a dime......A new module will be made that will be permanently integrated into the harness to resolve all these issues........
