nova exhaust kits

Could anyone give tell me what would be a better choice in exhaust kit for a nova the pypes x kit or the flowmaster thunder both with the crossflow muffler. I really like the sound of flowmaster but have never heard the pypes kit

Pypes will provide you with better performance if that's what your after... Pypes have a nice sound to them also...

It is a very subjective answer. I think Flowmanster has a great sound. Nobody made a muffler that sounded like them all through the 1980's and 1990's. It was a unique sound that I identified with modern, powerful engines. There now seems to be a few imitators. I have them on my Chevelle, with a kit I installed in the early 1990's. If I were to do an exahust kit today on my car, I would not choose Flowmaster based on a change in my personal taste and the fact the Flowmaster sound seemt o be common enough to span about 75% of the cars at any show I attend.

There was a time when I thought I wanted to be able to drive on the street and then go to the drag strip and keep the exhaust on. It was kinda nice not to have to drop the exhaust, but I missed having a loud car at the strip. Sentimentality, ego, I'm not sure of all the reasons but I like my car to be loud when I am drag racing.

Pypes makes a good product. They offer options to give you your choice of sounds form modern to nostalgic and probably can really zero in exactally what you want. Do you know what you want?

Everyone seem to do the crossflow exhaust kits these days. They are not ideal for guys who want to open the exahust up, though the electronic cut-outs come close to acheiving that feel. My sister has a Flowmaster transverse kit on her 69 Camaro. It is nice and I've hear nothing but positive feedback form people who comment on the car. It would be tought ot drop the exhaust on that car. I would ask if Pypes would put in a pair of V-band clamps on the section that goes over the axle. That way you could drop it and have some fun.

I'm sorry if that response wasn't clear enough to answer your question. I guess I'm saying to contact Pypes and ask them to accomodate any special considerations you would have and see what that would cost. They see what a box Flowmanster kit costs and weight out what those options are worth to you.

I am running a Magnaflow kit on my Chevelle and am very happy with the results. It's fairly quiet at idle but barks pretty good under full throttle. It also had very good results when comparing it to other exhaust systems as far as robbing horsepower.

I have the header back Pypes system on my Nova with the Racepro crossflow muffler, It is a true "flow through" muffler that is pretty quiet at idle and normal driving but will "louden up considerably" if you jump on it (sounds great), the system tucks up nice too

I have the Flowmaster American Thunder. I removed the Flowmater mufflers and installed Warlock mufflers. I then bolted QTP electic cutouts to the capped outlet of the Warlocks. The mufflers sound better then the Flowmaster ones (no drone at cruzing speeds), and the cutouts free up A LOT of horsepower! I open the cutouts at .02 on this video:
