Been there, done that. It AINT fun! When the temp reaches the point of flash over you have about 2-3 seconds to vacate or you instantly cook, literally at 1100 degrees. In a backdraft, you have no seconds!

Believe it or not a fireman's job is actually more dangerous than a policeman's job...

That is the truth about a flash over. Very scary! That is an excellent video of an interior attack on a working residential fire. When you make an interior attack you HAVE to follow your instincts because the visibility is zero.

As a retired professional firefighter for 33 years I could certainly sit here and second guess some of their tactics. However, it's an excellent example of split second decisions that are required of a first-in arriving officer. Excellent video and a great learning tool for the critique after the job.

I believe they have their own unique dangers. One no worse then the other depending on the situation. I know Policemen that were in burning buildings before the Fire Dept arrived. Apples to Oranges. They both are needed and do great jobs.

My part time shop helper is a police officer. We joke all the time that he wants no part of my volunteer firefighting job and I want no part of his policing job. I have a pretty good idea what I am getting into crawling into a burning building. He has no idea what he is getting into when he pulls someone over. Just my opinion.
