Not too knowledgeable on these, maybe someone can help. I have a set of SBC valve covers, plain steel, with the indented V running lengthwise, & the rectangular pad in the middle. They also have two wire clips on one cover, & the "O" stamp on the flanges. I know they are mid '60s 327, and have heard about the "O" on chrome ones. Can anyone tell me of their various applications? Thanks,- Dale.

Are they plain, have a raised area for a sticker, or have Chevrolet script?

They have the raised pad in the centre for a sticker.

They are 1965-1966 valve covers for L79 327 equipped Chevelle and Nova.

Thanks everyone for all your help. One more question,- did some L79 cars have chrome covers, and some have painted ones? - Dale

FWIW, all the SB covers in 68, chrome or painted, carried the O stamp. Just a bit easier to see on the chrome ones.

Can you post a pic of the center of one of them where the sticker pad is?

That style entered production mid '63 and the "O" is also used back that far. The triangles next to the rectangular sticker recess were much smaller when that steel valve cover entered production for '62 and was used to mid '63.

----John Z hit the nail on the head as far as the O is concerned. Those valve covers can only be installed one way. If installed backwards the rockers can just barely nudge the inside edge. "O" was for the assembly line workers.
----Hope Im not telling everybody something they already know!.....Bill S

As with anything Bill, some already knew it and some didn't. The "O" was stamped in them from the beginning in '62.

Now, I wonder why they didn't stamp the "O" in 409 valve covers???? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/haha.gif
