This Yenko Nova came with power steering, and someone has changed it to manual. Having a rough time getting it to turn correctly. Is the pitman arm different for the two applications????
Thanks
Peter
Yes.
With P/S originally used #3953231.
Without originally used #3953217..(3953219 actually cast into it)

So Peter, you looking for a power steering pitman arm or a manual steering pitman arm? There is a major difference in the hole where the arms fit to the shaft. There is no way that they could be interchanged, but the one you have might be wrong for the car though.

John,
Looking for a pitman for STANDARD box. I have one on it, so it must be the wrong one. Did not see a part # on it. That box I think was used for a couple of years in Chevs, Pontiacs etc, but I could be wrong. The car turns left 2 turns, and turns right about 3.5 turns with the one in it.

For some reason, I have a power steering box with part# B 3953219 GMT 35 on the pitman arm that came out of one of my 70 Nova's? 06 E car that was originally a 6 cyl.

OK, I'll keep answering my own questions. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/Charley.gif
Looks like power steering pitman is 3953219 with a B,
and standard steering pitman is 3953219 with an A after it.
Anyone want to confirm or deny?????

Pete, today I checked my 70 Nova granny car that still has the original manual steering box and arm on it. The arm has a sideways number 23 followed by 3953219A if that will help confirm any suspicions or questions.
Hi Pete. Check out Elgin Industries products (http://www.elginind.com). They make parts for the OEM's and they offer a replacement pitman arm for your Nova. Part number 3K6150 for manual steering. The one I have is definitely a nice piece (forged) and the box states it was manufactured in the USA (no Chineseium...L-O-L)
Hope this helps.
Wayne
And btw: as near as I can tell that original power steering box and pitman arm you bought from me was never molested and I'm confident the numbers are right.
