Let's try this again. Due to the server issues this week, our original post was lost, so please re-post your responses!

<span style="font-weight: bold">MEET THE MEAN ONES IN CHICAGO, IN HONOR OF DON YENKO</span>

With the continued success of the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, the most common question is “how are you going to top this next year?” Well...with the continued support of some of the greatest and most enthusiastic car people in the hobby, we are gearing up to do exactly that! We have already announced our “Class of ‘62” and “Class of 1972” Anniversary displays, our Aero Warriors, Shelby Snakepit IV, Trans Am Terrors, Bee Hive, “Going Topless” and of course our Corvette Central Triple Diamond display and competition, so the stage has been set. The response to every one of these displays, along with the rest of our show, is unprecedented.

Today we want to tell you about our latest development. This is one that will certainly set a new standard and again, could set the stage to be the largest gathering ever under one roof, much like our ZL1 gathering and our ‘71 Hemi Cuda convertible display last year, and our incredible gathering of Hurst cars two years ago. Drumroll please.....

<span style="font-weight: bold">ANNOUNCING; MEET THE MEAN ONES IN CHICAGO; THE DON YENKO 25th MEMORIAL COLLECTION, HONORING THE LIFE OF AUTOMOTIVE LEGEND, DON YENKO</span>

Sometimes a great idea starts as simple “car talk” between a few guys. A few weeks ago, Joe Swezey and Brian Henderson of Supercar Workshop in Latrobe, PA. were talking cars, (most likely over the hood of a Yenko Camaro!) when Joe mentioned that it has been 25 years since the passing of Don Yenko. (May 27, 1927- March 5, 1987). Wow....has it really been that long? He went on to say, “wouldn’t it be great to put together a group of cars and the people who played a key role in his life, his racing, his successes and to really acknowledge all of his contributions?” Well...that is exactly how it all started. Soon after, Brian called me and asked if there was any way we could do this, and really do it right, at the upcoming MCACN show. Needless to say, the answer was a resounding YES!

Calls were made and e-mails were sent to key collectors to see who may be onboard. One of the first calls went out to Dr. Lynn Yenko Zoioppulos, Don’s daughter, to see if she would agree to join us to share some stories and memories from “back in the day.” We are honored to say, Lynn will indeed be joining us at MCACN November 17-18! Next up is Yenko memorabilia collector extraordinaire Joe Barr. For those who don’t know, Joe has an absolutely mind-blowing collection of Yenko related memorabilia and incredible knowledge of Yenko history. Joe is on board and has agreed to share many pieces from his extensive collection. Of course, a tribute to Don Yenko wouldn’t be complete without a variety of real-deal documented Yenko Super Cars, now would it? Yenko Stinger? check. 67 Yenko 427 Super Camaro? check. ‘68 and ‘69 Yenko Super Camaro’s? Check-check! And what about the ultra rare ‘69 Yenko 427 Chevelle, of which a mere 99 were built? Not only a check, but check-check, with a white one AND an orange one! Yenko Deuce; another checkeroo! Suffice it to say, the response has been overwhelming, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

The Yenko Supercars website, www.yenko.net (http://www.yenko.net), launched by Tom Clary and the Clary family, has served as the ultimate gathering place for so many of us into Yenko Supercars and all Dealer-built Supercars, and more recently, all things Muscle Car related, and has brought together countless collectors and enthusiasts. Many of us have formed real friendships on this site, with our shared passion for these great cars and the people who put them on the map. The MCACN team would like to say Thanks to the Clary Family for launching and keeping this site alive for so many years, allowing us all to partake in our passion. We would also like to thank MCACN Member Charley Lillard, who recently took over the reigns of the site. I am pleased to say that this gathering will be presented by the Yenko.net website and the Supercar Registry along with members of the Yenko Family, Super Car Workshop, Muscle Car Restoration and Design, Arone Restoration, Author Dr. Pete Giminez, the Joe Barr Memorabilia Collection and the many owners of these Legendary Automobiles who will be joining us.

If you are the owner or know of a Yenko Super Car, Race Car, Yenko sold Muscle Car, restored or unrestored, or any related memorabilia, we would like to extend a personal invitation to you to join us. If you are a past Yenko employee or a Yenko enthusiast, be sure to make it a point to join us when the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals returns to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (greater Chicago), Illinois. We would also love to meet some original owners and hear your stories.

We have already received commitments for more than 30 authentic Yenko Super Cars. We are committed to making this not only the largest, but more importantly, the absolute best tribute to a Legendary man and his Legendary automobiles. Just for a moment, imagine the lineup that will be gathered under one roof in the Chicago area, in honor of the man who certainly is one of the primary forces behind the instant recognition of the cars we all know today as “Super Cars.”

If you would like to be a part of this historical display, with a car or cars, or related memorabilia, please e-mail Bob Ashton at [email protected] or call 586-549-5291, or call Brian Henderson at 724-875-3546 or e-mail [email protected]

THANKS;

It is unfortunate that the original announcement of the MCACN 'Meet the Mean Ones' had to be lost to some type of internet hacking. But we will make the best of it. I want to thank everyone for all the emails and phone calls of encouragement for this very important get together. The very early response has been overwhelming. Cars and memorabilia collections that have not been seen in years, or in some cases never, are making plans for November. If you are interested, please contact either Bob or myself with your ideas for the show. We are trying to make this display a very special one for the Yenko family and enthusiast alike.

The response to this gathering is, well...pretty overwhelming. Suffice it to say, if you own a Yenko automobile or related memorabilia, you really need to be a part of this.

Please remember, you need to be properly registered for the show to be in the display, and we want to let people know what will be there, so please go to www.mcacn.com (http://www.mcacn.com) to officially register.

I am also now working on our new MCACN magazine and would like to include as many participants as possible, so please send me your very best photos. If you have any vintage Yenko related pics, please send me those too!

THANKS;

If you own a Yenko, please be a part of this gathering. Last year we did ZL1's and it was a gathering to remember. Lets make this gathering even bigger. Anybody that has been to MCACN knows how special this show is. If you haven't been to MCACN, try to come this year. If you are far away, just fly into Ohare and the show-hotels are 4 minutes from the airport. If you can't stand to be at a car show for more than a few minutes like me, don't worry about it. This is not that kind of show. It will take you forever to see all the special cars. You will be glad you came. Start planning now for the weekend before Thanksgiving.

I have been asked by a few people what the display might consist of. Here are my early ideas. As of now, a timeline of achievements is a great place to start. With the early race program cars. Then into the first mass marked 66 Corvair program. 67,68,69 70, Vegas to the final 81 turbo Z cars. All Yenko sold cars are welcome, it does not have to be a 427. Performance is the key word.

1969 will likely be the largest, so a time line of the early x66 cars into the next wave of X44 and the sprinkling of the rare X11's. We already have examples of each, along with the Chevelles and Novas.

I would also like a car or two that people can get into and have their picture taken behind the wheel of an authentic Yenko. You would not believe the fun it is to have an enthusiast get behind the wheel of a Yenko car and have his or her picture taken by his father or grandfather. It is important to get the next generation excited for the cars too.

Not only will there be cars, but the memorabilia display should be one of the largest ever gathered in one spot. I have had many people email me about rare items that have never been seen, and items that have not been displayed in years.

Also we are working out the details of a participant only shirt, and a special plaque commemorating the event that will hopefully be signed by the likes of Lynn Yenko and others. Also commemorative shirts different from the participants is being considered for anyone that would like one.

I am looking for other great ideas that we can incorporate into the show, to make this event much more than just a row of cars. Any ideas that members here have will be considered, and since we are over 6 months away. Many ideas will be used as we tweak the show. Look for updated here as the roster starts to fill. We are already on a pace to eclipse anything the world has ever seen in one place since the cars were sold new. As with everything the Bob Ashton and crew at MCAN has done, this should be amazing. I hope anyone that wants to participate from bringing cars, memorabilia, or just to lend is able to. Thanks for all your support to this point..BKH

At this rate my car will never leave Illinois. I am in. I didn't think the setting for the car could be topped from last year, was I wrong. Rick and Annie were kind enough to figure out what to do with the car until November, but we felt it had to be there. Who is in?

I can't wait to see your car again, you have one of the best due to the efforts of Rick and Annie, he has certainly set the bar at a new high with your car. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/drool.gif I couldn't stop looking at it last year, and picking Rick's brain about stuff. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif

I was with Brian this weekend at Ford Carlisle. They had an amazing collection of factory lightweight, SOHC and R code cars (and a factory drag racing pickup). Probably 40-50 in total.

I would think that we could do better with the Yenko display given how long Yenko was involved in hi performance car sales and his own racing career. I think it would be cool to try to get one of every color sYc Camaro, Chevelle and Deuce there, plus as many of the converted cars, race cars, etc. Would be quite the display and I bet we could best the phenomenal Hurst central display of two years ago...

Also, can one of the adminstrators make this a top of forum &quot;sticky&quot; thread so it doesn't get lost as time goes on? We need people to see it (and I don't even own a Yenko).

Confirmed over the weekend, <span style="font-style: italic">another</span> collection of Yenko memorabilia. This group of goodies includes quite a few items that have never been shown to the public from a private collection. The owner has agreed to join us and share these pieces of Yenko history November 17-18.

Right now we are still gathering cars and memorabilia. Once the roster gets a little closer to the date, we will start to compile a timeline. We have some very interesting items to be displayed along side the cars. I am still waiting to hear back from a few guys and I have had many inquiries. We have heard back from lots of media that will be covering this event. One thing we are going to do is have a few Yenko cars that enthusiasts can get in and have a feel for what it is like sitting behind the wheel and have an opportunity to have pictures taken sitting in the cars. There will be a special participants only commemorative shirt and document for attending. It is shaping up to be a very special weekend. We are still looking for more owners and ideas to incorporate into the show...BKH

I think the point was that we dont need 10 Hugger Orange 69 Camaro cars, but if you looking for some specific cars, colors, years that you need to fill the void for the show content. Is this a yenko car reunion or a highly organized specific show content we are after? I got the feeling from Brian, its the later.....

just offering some help as a fellow yenko owner.

I think 10 Hugger Orange Yenko's in a row would look pretty cool.

I will not turn down any Yenko sold hi-performance car. When it comes to 10 Camaros the same color if that happens, that would be fine, but placed in order that would show early X66 cars, the transition of a few X11,s into the late X44 cars would be a cool way of showing that off. Add on tach cars and the factory tach cars etc, with a story board explaining each model and their unique characteristics...BKH

would a yenko ZL1 engine count as memorabilia (same GM 052 casting)? If so, I could bring the one I got. same engine block type that pushed the first ZL1 camaro down the track (when bill porterfield owned that one of kind car).

There are more blocks out there, it would be nice to display some of them. Some folks I know have new ones in crates, yenko stampings, etc. I can ask some of them if they would be willing to display.

I think it would be neat for some folks to see some of these additional unique yenko pieces along with the cars.

OK guys, getting some confusion so let me see if I can clear up:

You <span style="font-weight: bold">MUST submit </span>an application to <span style="font-weight: bold">MCACN</span> have spot on the floor plan in the Yenko display or in any other area of the show. We welcome all REAL Yenko Sold and REAL Yenko Supercars.

You can print the application from http://www.mcacn.com/2012Application.pdf or you can complete the online form at https://www.jotform.com/form/91852225146. (https://www.jotform.com/form/91852225146) Posting your intent to participate on the forums or emailing Bob, does not save you a spot in the display, only an approved application does.

__________________________________________________ ___
Now...in reference to Type of Entry: You can choose from several options on your application,
a Yenko SOLD car (but not converted) could be judged as a Concours Car, Stock or restored
a Yenko SuperCar, could be judged as a Day 2 (Period Correct) Concours Car
a Yenko sold or Supercar could be judged as a Street Stock car if you want to be judged in a less intense form (Street stock cars judged on fit and finish)
a Participant who wants no judging at all will choose Non-Judged Pick Eligible as their type of entry, and they are still eligible to win an award picked by a sponsor, celebrity, magazine etc.
__________________________________________________ __________________

Approved Application: Bob Ashton depends on folks &quot;in the know&quot; to assist with confirming authenticity etc., but the applications will be sent to
MCACN, LLC
PO Box 182068
Shelby Twp, MI 48317 or through the online form for approval by Bob Ashton

PROPS: We DO depend on YOU to spread the word and assist in in recruiting these cars. Brian Henderson has been instrumental in generating the concept and busy contacting Yenko owners and asking for their participation. Many of you guys are spreading the word to friends who own Yenkos (Dru Diesner has sent me at least 10 names of Yenko owners, including himself) and Of Course, Tom Clary, for creating this very site, a place for Yenko Enthusiasts to gather, discuss and hopefully join in on this historic gathering.

As we all know, each and every Yenko Super Car has an interesting story. Yes, there may be more than one H/O '69 in the display, but rest assured, each will be unique in its own way and will have a story to tell.

Example; Dru Diesner has signed up with his 69 H/O Yenko 427 Super Camaro, and there is no doubt that it is unlike any other!

Certainly did not intend to cause consternation ! The car is a Stinger, still actively raced in Vintage ( fast lap in group @ MidOhio, Watkins Glen, Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix @ Beaverrun , etc. ) Fast time by vintage sports car at Hershey Hillclimb in 2004. Pennsylvania title dated 1/2/67 . Restored by me in 1995, safety equipment updated, legal 1966 engine built by Warren Dernoshek, chassis race prepped by me. For those interested, I hope to have my next book available at the show, which will include detailed history of the Yenko ZL 1 program, among other things.

I know its August and you are thinking, I have plenty of time to register for the show....well...Typically Bob does the floorplan in September and he will allot a certain amount of space for the Yenko Mean Ones display, dont miss your chance to be a part of this historic display by waiting too long to commit! We get thousands of emails per week, so if you want to be sure there is a spot for you on the showfloor, and <span style="font-weight: bold">IN the Yenko</span> display be sure to send a formal <span style="font-weight: bold">registration form</span> in. (Bob does not refer to emails or phone calls when making the floorplan, we use registration forms only)

You can print one and mail it in from this link: http://www.mcacn.com/2012Application.pdf or you can complete your application online at https://www.jotform.com/form/91852225146 Email me if you plan to be in the Yenko Mean Ones Display, and I will assist you in getting registered. musclecarandcorvettenationals@gmail.com (mailto:musclecarandcorvettenationals@gmail.com) Thanks!

I've located many older release 1:64 &amp; 1:18 die cast, plus some Yenko memorabilia purchased at that auction at the very 1st Yenko Reunion (1998) in Henderson, TN at the Holiday Inn. What a neat weekend that was. Anyway we have participated in MCACN for the last 4 years now in the swap meet/collectible area, and what a show it is. Always love love love it. Wish I still had the real one though...

Great to have you back on the site, Jim and thanks for your continued support of the MCACN show.

Jim has signed up again to vend with us in his usual spot in our swap area, against the far wall up front. Be sure to stop by his display and check out all the great stuff he has. For anyone who doesn't know already, Supercar Collectibles deals in very select limited edition die cast replica's, many that are exclusive. Thanks Bob. We really do try to have the good stuff. I've dug out some of my own personal items to bring to this show, in addition to 1:64, 1:43, 1:20, and 1:18 diecast, I'll have a couple porcelain Yenko Camaro's (9&quot; and 12&quot;) plus Don Yenko's off white dinner jacket he was married in, his Army-Air Force green uniform jacket with a couple of patches, and a shirt-jacket type item that was signed by many of his friends at a college graduation / frat party / reunion type event. Really a unique piece, with sayings, notes, signatures, many drawings on it, even Hope signed it. Like Bob said, back in the corner of the swap meet, right next to where some people exit the swap meet to get to the hotels. Stop by and check us out.

Now a short story... When I read there is to be 7 of the 8 Pontiac Trans Am convertibles ('69's) it brought back some memories, as that's what this is all about - right? In 1980-81? area I was at the Car Craft Street Machine Nationals walking the showfield. I come upon a '69 TA, stop, pull out my camera, focus, and when looking through the lens to get the best photo I can, I notice a matching convertible - in the background. Wow, never seen one before! So I stopped, didn't take the photo, walked around both cars, stopped again, took a photo of the convertible - with the coupe in the background... Something obviously I'll never forget. I can't wait to maybe see the exact same car again... and looking very much forward to it.

I am finalizing the MCACN 2012 floorplan, and we are now up to an incredible 55 Yenko automobiles that have signed up to be a part of this history making gathering. I will publish a list of the cars, but let me tell you...we have ALL the bases covered!

Also of note; we have again surpassed the 500 car mark, with over 75% coming in to the Chicago area for the very first time.

We have a few more swap meet area spots, ($100 each) and about 8 car corral spots ($100 each) remaining before we are officially sold out across the board.

Whew! Our goal to once again &quot;raise the bar&quot; is absolutely guaranteed, no matter what brand you lean toward, and the overall balance between makes and models is the best ever.

THANKS to everyone who continue to allow us to make our dreams reality!

You are killing me, Bob. It's the opening weekend for the new Formula One track here in Austin that weekend and I probably won't be in Chicago for the great MCACN event. My house will be full with race fans from all over. Stop promoting this event, every time I get an email, my heart sinks. I just found out that the '69 HO convertible will be there. How can I be in two places at once.......... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/crazy.gif

Last year I helped out with the ZL/1 display that was amazing, not to mention a LOT of work to get the cars setting and looking right. And that was sixteen cars. With this years response to the &quot;Meet the Mean Ones&quot; gathering the job will be enormous. Not only the cars, but do not forget the amazing display of Yenko memorabilia. I want to thank everyone that has committed their cars, memorabilia and their time. Look for the current roster to be posted soon. If you want to be part of the show, you still have time, and we would love to have you...BKH

In the interest of convenience, what's the closest airport? I believe I arrived in Midway and left from O'Hare last time. The convention center was a quick train ride, unlike O'Hare.

I brought a piece of Yenko memorabilia here to work today to take some photo's. This is one of the pieces I purchased at the 1st Yenko Reunion in Hendersonville, TN back in 1998(?). It was in the auction of some of Don Yenko's personal items.

I took a cab from Ohare to the Hotel-convention center last year and timed it right at 4 minutes. If you miss the light it is 5 minutes. Or the hotel has free shuttles running to and from Ohare.

And then...imagine the symphony that will take place when the show closes and these babies start to fire up to exit the building!

To put things in perspective, this display will be close to twice the size of the ZL1/COPO display from last year and will have 20+ more cars than we had in our big Cars of Hurst display the in 2010. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

I've started to pack already. I've been thinking of downsizing my own collection, so we will have more Yenko (die cast) than anywhere we have ever been, ever. I've pulled out close to 40 different cars (67-8-9 Camaros, 69 Chevelles, 69-70 Nova's) with most of them just 1 car each. And just so all here know, it's not (not) all about the booth &amp; selling. My business partner Scott and I originally attended (as we're both car guys) and we were simply blown away. So much, we'll never miss one. The circles of specialty cars, the Hursts, the Hemi Cuda converts, the people, the barn finds, the, the, the... man what an event. I'm excited man... I'm excited. Just put a countdown (number of days) on our homepage - with a link of course to MCACN. Is it too early to pack the duffle bag? 51? Wow...

Bob, this looks like it's going to be one of the best car shows ever!
I'm not sure where the previous notice was placed, but I wanted to remind all the Yenko participants
that I will be photographing ALL of the Yenkos at this year's show and will place as many as I can into
a new book that will be available Fall 2013 (health permitting).

If your Yenko has an interesting or unique story, please forward it to me for possible inclusion into the book.
I will not be bringing a computer or a scanner to the show, so email works best.
Please send your story to: pete@vetturapublishing.com (mailto:pete@vetturapublishing.com) for review.

Well, with the incredible support of people who share the passion that all of the MCACN members have, is the answer. This display, along with the other special displays and the show in general, will be nothing short of mind blowing.

And I can honestly say, there is no shortage of fresh idea's that we are already working on for 2013 and beyond.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to each and every one who is involved in making the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals the incredible show that it is.

Wish I could make it, but I'll have a house full of folks for the Formula One weekend here in Austin. The town will be rocking all weekend with bands and race fans. Have fun in Chicago, guys.

Please post pictures.

Just a reminder to all show participants of the &quot;Meet the Mean Ones&quot; Display. Make sure you have under a 1/4 tank of fuel. If you have more come see me and I will help you with regulations..BKH

Jerry's car will be at the MCACN car show this weekend at the TLC Restorations display. I'll be floating between his car and Jim Parks' 1969 Yenko Camaro.

Here's a picture of Jerry's car getting detailed at TLC's shop for the MCACN show

I appreciate the fact that Brian and Joey asked for our help and participation. We did very little compared to all the others that also helped especially Jeff Murphy. His plans were the best ever and well organized though I need to get better at my math before I can help him again..... The best was when we were able to meet Mark Gillespie and Warren Dernoshek at the same show. Great guys and even better stories. We were also honored to be displayed along with Eddie's car. Stunning.

Let me say Thank You to Brian and Bob and everyone that had a hand in the Yenko display! I had a great time, met more new people, caught up with old friends and gathered new info (I know a lot more about Stingers now). I was out there 4 days and it felt like 1, went by way too fast. Rick and Anne were great hosts, again, and I want to thank them for making it possible for the Camaro to be there. Eddie, thanks for letting me park in the vicinity of your awesome car :-) , it was fun. I think the setup and breakdown was icing on the cake, just listening and smelling the fumes as the cars are coming in and leaving, priceless.

What was the final Yenko count at the event?

Any other interesting trivia to rattle off, i.e. 6 out of the 8 Trans Am ragtops? (Where was #7 that didn't show up? Was that the Vegas car?)

Las Vegas car was a no show even though I was assured it would be there.

Additional question for the Chevy-inclined: What was the deal with the two Yenko Novas? One was bronze/brown and the other was red. Were they cars never converted to 427s?

55 Yenko sold or affiliated cars in the Meet the Mean Ones display. Send me your email address and I can send you a PDF of the final layout of the cars including their colors and owners.

The two Novas were both unconverted cars. The correct color is Nutmeg Brown Firemist Metallic (code 97) RPO on 1969 Cadillac only, special ordered by original owner for this car. We call her Nutmeg for short.
