April 27, 1969 was a Sunday - not a possible casting date at Tonawanda, but slight possibility at Saginaw Ductile where they used coreless furnaces. Not much time to get it shipped to G&A and assembled on the 1st on first shift though.

I have an 0524 stamped BE rear. I had Eric take a look at the stamps a few years ago and he had mixed emotions.

Anyone ever hear of another 0524 stamped BE?

Here is the stamping...the E looks a little off but in person it appears better.

When I worked in the automotive steering column plant they stamped every steering column with the month day and shift. It was done with a pnuematic stamping machine. The letters and numbers were put into a jig with what shift and what day month was being stamped. You got a nice straight stamp. I find it hard to beleave they hand stamped the gear ratio. I would think everything would be lined up. Just my 2 cents. Good luck with your search.

This is the rear in my 6cyl car, car had been parked since 73-4 but I have been told it's fake, and the date is early. I didnt know what a BE was till I joined this site after asking a question about the rear so then I started checking into the BE's mine did not have the 4:10's in it but GM 1970 4:88 gears. The powers above say they are a COPO only rear but I still believe they could have been purchased over the counter I know there are gears out there with dates as early as 67.

I always wonder about these kind of things, for ever.. one feature to the 68 z28 only was to have 15" wheels. Until about 6 months ago when i picked up a survivor 68 l78 ss with the window sticker stating special "15" wheels and the decal in the glove box also stating that.

Im sure there are some born with vehicle options that the "camaro gods" would say didnt come with the car new. Thats what make these cars fun!!
