Has anyone determined whether any real SS427 '67 Chevelles were actually made?

Just another story to make the saleable item sound more appealing.

All legitimate info says only big cars and corvettes were fitted with the 427 in 1967. I have however, seen locally another 67 Chevelle "SS427" that the owner swears is original. I asked him what dealer put it together and he answers "detroit" <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

It's funny, over the years I've seen several '67 SS427 Chevelles that looked very original and not cobbled together by their owner.

Maybe these were dealer cars?

Many of them were located in the Carolina's so I wasn't sure if their wasn't a dealer down there doing conversions during that time. And I thought it was funny that there were only '67s, not '66, '68, or '69 Chevelles.

I have an old Car Craft from the 80's that has a good layout on Chevelle facts and production. I remember it saying something about all 427 engines in 67 needing to be ordered through the COPO system.

By the 80's Car Craft and most of the other car mags were making huge mistakes and assumptions about 60's cars.

Yeah, I'm not saying that exact car was a real SS427, but I have seen others that appeared to be.

Or, at the least, dealer options and I was wondering what dealers were doing the conversions.

This is like the rumour started by a magazine from the 80's that stated there were 1971 Chevelle SS454 with LS6 motors.

Don't believe everything you read <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

Hearsay vs. real fact with proof is what proves what is real and what is a myth.

This dealer offers a nice visual of what could have been........

http://www.collectormotors.com/1967chvl427.htm

I owned the stock version of this car for a number of years, even with the bench seat, auto on the column, and ext. color.

Im trying to locate a 1996 Chevelle that was last seen in MA. The name of the vehicle was "Gentle Ben". Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will explain more if any leads arise. Thanks

Loc: Arlington MA USA Hi all. The news isn't all bad (I guess). The car has gotten considerably worse. It is very wet and moldy. I'll give you guys the numbers and we'll see whats what. trim; 01B 185
66 13867 116
731 F2
the vin: 138676B136040.
Here's what I saw.. Intake and top of motor stolen. no vin on pad # is T06231VR. The car is under a tree with lots of wet leaves and mud. I can't sneak out of work and then show back up dressed in mud & scum, therefore no tranny or rear #'s (yet). The convertible top is power, the car was blue but is now silver. It has a four speed. Black interior. Does have rollbar, Bolted to floor with one bar rendering the passenger seat useless. The odometer shows 19634 but the car has rot (sitting outside rot more than driving rot. lower fenders lower doors blown through. The frame and under are too nice for big road miles. The straight axle has drums (of course) and spiral shocks. The name of the car (rear quarters) is Gentle Ben. the dash is painted with " driven by Glen Lorenzen" there are two 1/4 window stickers. One I cannot make out and the other says "1969 AHRA summernationals new york national speedway". It is not reasonable to consider that this car was street driven. The lower quarter says " artwork by Gill" Maybe someone knows of this car. Also I checked ebay for pricing. Not too high. Who's got suggestions on money to be offered. I think maybe this car should stay a nostalgia drag car? First it's got to get inside! Just got my camera back..will sneak over and try to post a picture. If anyone is hugely interested I'll email you one real quick as I do know how to do that at least! [email protected] Thanks all
