The 2012 POCI Convention in St. Charles IL was a huge success, despite the brutal heat wave that came through Chicago! Over 900 Pontiacs in attendance, and we made the ABC News! Joe Bortz brought out his one-of-a-kind original GM show cars, 3 of them were GM Motorama cars (including the 2-seater 1954 Bonneville and the wild 1960 X-400 supercharged Bonneville), and he also brought out the little 2-seat 1964 Pontiac Banshee.

Lots of 1957-1958 Fuel Injected Bonnevilles on display, plus the usual array of fine GTO's, Trans Am's, and lots of full-sized muscle, from 2+2's to Grand Prix's. There was a huge gathering of 1962 Catalinas, a special display marking the 50th anniversary.

Inside the air conditioned Megacenter was a pair of Brewster Green 1973 SD-455 Trans Am's, one auto and one 4-speed. And one of my favorites was a sleeper 1970 RAIV GTO.

A link to LOTS of pictures. Enjoy at your leisure!

Thanks Mike - excellent photos.

Btw - I saw that blue 4 dr '62 and immediately thought "gee, that looks like something 'Engine-ear' would drive..."

Cool show and the wife and I enjoyed showing off the pair of Brewster. It was the the first time we had them parked next to one another at the same venue. Only 29 apart in vin numbers got allot of attention from the crowd. Many escaping from the heat into the walk in cooler.
Sorry we missed some of you!

----Just wondering, Stealthbird, I went thru all those great pics and saw virtually no 69-72 Grand Prix's. Are there more pics somewhere that would show later stuff? I did notice one pic of a row of 69-72 GPs but none of the great detail shots as seen in the pics you gave us access to......Bill S

There were at least 20 Grand Prix's there (69-72), and at least a dozen lined up next to each other, along with a couple Hurst SSJ's. Problem is, I videotaped more than I photographed this time around, so I don't have any pics of the GP's.

For those interested, here's a link to some 73-up A-bodies.

It was indeed a great event! I don't recall ever seeing so many beautifully restored Pontiac's of all years and models in one place. Thanks for sharing the photos! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Brewster, your pair of T/A's are awesome! It was great to see them in person for the first time. "green" with envy... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif

Bill, I've got the '69 to '72 GP's covered for ya. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif The '69s were all in a row, in their own class. The '70 to '72s were in another class, but only three were present. Included in the '69 lineup were two of the 116 built 428-HO 4-speed cars and two of the 986 built 428-HO auto cars. The '70 to '72 class included two of 60 built '72 SSJ's and a '70 SJ 455 4-speed, one of 199 built. There were a couple of others too in different classes and one low mileage '70 inside. All in all a really good showing of these body style GP's. You rarely see one of these at any given car show, I was diggin it!

----Thanks so much, Grant!!! Looks like a pretty good group. Were there any leather cars among the GPs? I wish I would have taken some time off from all my boat stuff as I would have liked to meet you as well as see these bad boys......Bill S

Yes, all three of my friend Jim's '69s there were leather cars, two with black and one green leather. Sorry, I didn't take any photos inside of them.

Thanks for posting the pics Grant! I knew someone would have GP pics. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

There was also a ragtop GP there too, but not the Lucerne Blue one that's been to other events. Many of the guys thought the Grand Prix looked like a natural as a ragtop.

Bill, there was a '69 SJ there for sale as well... very similar to yours. The late Fred Engers owned this car for many years, his wife just recently decided to sell it. I remember meeting Fred and his friend from Illinois that both drove their '69 SJ's to Irvine, CA for the 1993 POCI convention. That was the same show that I drove Charley's red '70 SJ to the convention.

----That SJ is on the money, Grant. Wish I had some $ to spare as mine gets lonely. Looks like a very nice GP. Probably sold at the meet???.......Bill S

Bill, that one would certainly make a nice pairing with yours. I don't believe it sold, but I did talk to someone there that knows the family well and was trying to make a deal on it.
