Just inherited my fathers 69 Copo Camaro that he bought brand new in May of 69. I have all original paperwork, including original title(which I have not transferred to my name), retail order for motor vehicle form and original cash receipt from Dealer. It has 11k miles and I am looking to "freshen" it to make it perfect and would like to get some advice on who might be best to contact.
Thanks in advance.

Congrats on owning/inheriting a great car and you have come to the right place for advice. Hopefully your dad passed it onto you just due to his age and not due to his passing.
There are several on board that can help you with the freshing up of your car, me included. We do a lot of survivor and clean up cars so we are not new to it. Check out our web page and "Revival and maintenence section".
Welcome aboard!

Congrats on the car - sorry to hear you got it thru an inheritance. Im sure it has alot of special meaning.
Ask away about the car and what your planning to do. A few pics would be great!

Congrats and welcome to the site. Please post pics and dont do any freshening yet. A lot of times mistakes are made and the car would have been better left alone.

Good advice by Charley. You must be careful with survivor cars to preserve OE finishes. Hopefully it was stored well.
Where you at ? Would be nice if you work on your profile. Looking forward to some good photos, and details about your car, always great to see survivor cars.
If you need help posting photos, just ask.

Wow..thanks for the well wishes and welcoming. I am located in Ohio and am challenged as far as the pictures are concerned. Should I be cautious in posting VIN's and that sort of thing? I think I read on here something about theft and the like and I also saw another post about a guy following a Copo across the country that didnt even belong to him. My dad has even had the original dealership contact him at his residence out West over the years(after he moved out there from his hometown) about the car...kinda concerns me this day and age. Thoughts? Thanks again everyone!

I think all the Copo Camaros are in Ohio aren't they!? Yes your car could be found with a vin # that is known so keep that to yourself if you don't anyone contacting you. We look forward to hearing the details about your car; dealership/color/condition/etc. We're still waiting for the 200 mile original owner Yenko Camaro to appear, it will be nice to see a real car surface.

It would be interesting to know what dealer it came from. If it's Ewing Chevrolet, we have contacts who worked at the dealership and probably remember your dad's car.

Congrats on the COPO. There are many people on this site that answer any of your questions. I think I would leave it alone. Any info on color, options , stick or automatic?

So, runninbear called me a few weeks ago, the Copo is identical to another one owner Copo I know; same color; same dealer, etc. but it's a different car??!! What are the odds??!! He said his dad sold him the car for $3,400, the price he paid for the car new. He says dad is still alive, I guess it's not an inheritance then? I wish I had a dad like that!
I told runninbear to send me a picture on his phone..... no pics....
Runninbear found the best Copo related site on the internet with a new Copo find and then has nothing to share? I don't get it, too busy I guess.
I don't believe the car exists........ another original owner 200 mile Yenko or not???
Like I said, I will publicly apologize if I am wrong Runninbear. I would like to be wrong. We are waiting patiently....

Guess I should reply to this.. I made the mistake early on of speaking with this guy on the phone, who has now taken this to a different level. He is demanding proof of ownership, which as desert rat adds, is appalling. I guess I made a mistake of asking for advice on this forum, which I was leary of doing in the first place..and now regret it. I am not sure why others feel it is ok to try and publicly berate or discredit someone. If someone isnt comfortable sharing info on the web..isnt that ok..period? I am getting called out by someone who cannot respect the fact that I want to keep the car and info private..to me this is unacceptable! Guys like this are the reason I received so many PMs about keeping the car private. For those of you who sent the respectful PMs about the car and info..thx.

Runninbear. I just reread this entire thread, you might also.
" I guess I made a mistake of asking for advice on this forum, which I was leary of doing in the first place..and now regret it."
You got a warm welcome in the thread, you got advise, you got several people willing to help you with pics, you apparently never took anyones help with pics, you read the post of one skeptic and regret posting on this site ? The skeptic apparently knows of a identical car. Keep in mind we have had people come here and tell us about this great car they have and it turns out it is just someone making stuff up for attention. Try looking at this from both sides.
runninbear...with all due respect, you came forward & made this public on here.
He/we didn't.
The quickest/easiest way to shut up someone discrediting you, your dad or your car,is to post what he/they ask for,as well as back up what you say.
Both you & desertrat should fill out your profiles more,at least with a full name, location, email addy.
Otherwise no one will take much of what you say seriously.

I bought a 69 Camaro when I was 18. Prior to starting restoration I sent the VIN to GM Canada and it turned out to be a COPO. I came openly to this site for advice which they freely shared. Today I have a better car due to their input. Furthermore, this site protects countless people from the multitude of scams that exist. Hats off to the dedicated members here and their wealth of knowledge. As I've said in the past. There is nothing to worry about or take offence with if the car is legit.

CanCOPO..Well stated. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/scholar.gif As for "Somewhere in central Ohio Guy"...(WTF) Your the one that is missing out here. I know you don't like what Mark "Camaromb" told you, and that's to bad. Fact is he has studied these COPO's forever and has tons of data about these cars. He has recently helped me with BDY #'s and other info on a COPO that I am currently restoring. No dought you may have learned something about your car and others build in the same time frame had you been more up front with those here.
When a newb comes on here with the right attitude, and is truly interested about gaining some knowledge, you would be amazed at the info you will gain, and there is a ton to learn about these 69 COPO Camaro's.
And fill out your profile, or you don't really exist. Good luck.

Runninbear,
WOW!, I missed all the excitement! I'm glad to say I owe you an apology. I was wrong, gladly, about your car being real. With hundreds of Copo cars known and only a handful of original owner non-Yenko Copo cars that exist, this is the third original owner yellow Copo Camaro known and the second from the same dealer???!! They are all in Ohio too???!!!! Unbelievable.
With all the cars that don't really exist/stories we all have heard over the years, this car was hard to believe with so little information. Good luck, enjoy the car, it is one of the rarest that exist thats for sure. Thanks for sharing some info about the car.

I hope you leave the car unchanged. So many people, thinking they might increase the value with a new paint job or light resto, actually ruin the car.

I just ran across this thread, (my ears must have been burning), so is there any update? The owners name was Bair, if you look at the quarter panel where it's painted "Running Bair". As I recall, I met some guy at a cruise in, got to talking with him, he went home and came back with an old photo album and he let me photograph his old pictures. He was the guy with long black hair in the last photo, and he was the guy who told me that it was a ZL1. He was wrencher, not the owner.
I think runninbear emailed me a picture of this car, I'll have to dredge my old files to see if I still have it.

I've just read this thread today. I met a drag racer at Dragway 42 @10-15 yrs. ago racing a back-halfed Cortez Silver 69 Camaro with yellow and green stripes starting at the rocker behind the front wheels widening as they headed toward the rear of the car over the trunklid. This car was also called "Running Bear" above the stripes. I asked the racer if the car was an original 69 427 Camaro and he replied "yes, how did you know?". Until I saw your dad's car was Daytona Yellow, I thought that racer might have been your dad. By the way, my first experience with drag racing was at the 1972 AHRA Summernationals at Dragway 42 when I was 18.
