Got the 70 Black TH400 car out of its &quot;sleeping bag&quot; on Monday to get ready for the Dover Reunion and Nostalgia Drags. There were some puddles of tranny fluid in &quot;the bag&quot;..so I decided to have my boys at Kinderhook Transmission go thru everything and get her ready for the 1320 <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/burnout.gif

I ordered some Energay Suspension motor and tranny mounts...we are upgrading the lines to the remote cooler and fixing a few leaking seals and gaskets. Also added a nice yellow timing tape to the balancer...this will help my &quot;aging vision&quot; <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

Every time you look at one of these old cars you see something new...Jeff at the shop pointed out the aftermarket converter that was installed back in the day. (I never knew <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif) This car was raced in the Buffalo, New York area and a prior owner must have added the high stall unit along witht he 4.10 gears and Lakewood Bars. I need to install some Lakewood stickers to the bars before Saturday...some older bearded gentlemen gave me a set <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif

This shop does first rate work..they are old school and very thorough and clean. They truly respect your car and enjoy working on the classic hotrods...glad they are right up the street <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

We leave early Saturday morning to go to Lebanon Valley..Dino and company will be in attendence..hope it doesn't rain!

Rich...I don't know where it was sold new...the guy I got it from said it was in storage for many years following the death of the original owner.(car has only 33k miles!) this guy bought it to flip and I caught the flip <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

There is a sticker in the trunk from Wellers Speed Shop...this guy actually posted once here on the site, then the trail went cold.

I would like to know more about the car...just haven't spent the time on the detective work...

By the way..it runs strong...amazing car to drive with that TH400..when it shifts..you know it!

Tom, was the gas tank changed - or is it a late '70 build?

WILMASBOYL78

M...when I bought the car it still had the original tank, but it was full of corrosion and junk from sitting for many years. The guy tried flushing it out, but it was never right. So, I installed a new tank, flushed out the fuel line and that did the trick. I kept the factory tank, it is in nice shape on the outside...probably could be restored and used at some point.

****there is a neat story about the gas tank.
When I went to see the car the owner told me of the fuel tank issues but said he had come up with a &quot;temporary fix&quot;...he had a 5 gallon can of race gas on the passenger side floor with a rubber hose out the vent window to the fuel pump <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/shocked.gif

So my first ride in the car out in Buffalo was with this guy sitting in the passenger seat holding the gas can, while I drove the car. I floored it on a side street in his neighborhood and the next thing I knew I was looking at the trunk lid as the car almost swapped ends...It was an animal!...that test drive sealed the deal.

good maintenance is the key Tommy. You are on the right path. Lets hope you will &quot;floor it&quot; this time around and go straight. I'll give ya $450.00 for the traction bars that are on that car!

Sammy...I ran the car last year at the Dover Reunion...but, with only street radials it was tough to get out of the hole. I will avoid the water this year...and try to feather it a little and see how we do. The car has all new brakes, shocks, control arm bushings, lower ball joints, sway bar links, etc...the tranny cooler lines and the old motor/tranny mouunts concerned me, so that is why they are being replaced/repaired. I will put in a fresh set of plugs..check the &quot;Eric prepared&quot; 850 Holley, adjust dwell/timing as needed and top of the tank with some 100 octane go juice. Hopefully it won't rain...

ps..Traction Action bars are not for sale <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/3gears.gif

we will wait for the updates! Hey, is there a motor in that car or is there a jack under it? Thats it, you must be uncorking the headers.

Yes...there are 402 cubic inches of Chevy power <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Not sure about the open headers...perhaps..lot of work for a few runs down the 1320.

I thought so Tom, as that tank is technically a late '70 or '71 version with the curved neck.

Car was built January/70...virtually no options other than the custom vinyl interior, TH400 and a AM radio. Going to the tranny shop later today to bring her back home and finish getting ready for the Dover Shin-Dig.

wilma </div></div>got to uncork the tubes Tom. Unbolt them and let them hang and bolt the collector that is hanging to a hole on the header. It will stay tight and not drag the ground. A 10 minute deal. Do it! Better yet, have Karen do it!

Well Sammy...put a lot of work in and we got rained out <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/thumbsdown.gif

It was sunny this morning when I loaded up the car...got to the track...quick thru the tech check...unloaded and it started to rain. So they had about a 15 minute delay...got in staging lane and it started to rain again and then it poured!!

They closed the track...loaded back up and drove home...raining so hard it was starting to flood the back roads.

Oh well....maybe next time <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/burnout.gif

You are exactly right...he used that line about 10 times <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif

He doesn't know much about Novas...everytime one came to the line he was trying to figure out the year...my guys told him to invite me up to the tower for consultation <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif
