The best frickin scene in the movie.....Maxwell Street!
This is the best I can find of the clip on youtube. The neat thing is that this is the extended version of the beginning of that scene which is NOT usually played on TV when the movie is aired.

As a side note, after many years of searching, I found an almost identical Vienna Beef sign as shown in the soul food cafe scene above. The signs are identical in every way with the exception of mine saying "Pure Beef Red Hots" instead of "Pure Beef Polish Sausage." Not a big deal, what's more Chicago then "Red Hots?!"

32 years goes by fast! I remember the pile of cop cars off of Rt. 12 in Wauconda IL after they filmed that scene in '79. Growing up in Mt. Prospect we got a kick out of the "Mt. Prospect cop car...". That seems like many lifetimes ago....

I always thought there should be a butt load of 440 and 383 police interceptor motors, and heavy duty 727s, and maybe a few danas although the police 8 3/4s would have been fine.
Some scrap yard got really lucky.
