Yep, I hear that all the time. Those bring pretty good money from what I understand. Sure would be nice to catch one of these a$$holes in the process and teach him a lesson or two!

The internals of oem cats are platinum.
Buy yourself a good security system with obnoxiously bright lights. Park the van inside.

This happened at the place I work a few weeks ago. They did it in broad daylight on a weekday!

It happened here to several trucks with (empty) trailers sitting at a local boat launch. Guys were fishing and came back to pull the boats out and got a surprise when they started the trucks.

Since price on metal is sky rocketing this is a lucrative market for the bandits.
Over here most of the railways are electric with overhead copper wires at 16000 Volts. They have even started to steal that! Some of the bandits have been fried in the process, no real loss for society but the cost of repairing is high, especially if a railroad has to close down during repair.
Then the railway companies have to guard the replacement copper wire so that they don't steal that too...

That's a big ticket item with thieves... It's amazing how that happens all through the country to cars because of the expensive metals inside the convertor... Too bad there was not a big trend with thieves to jump off large bridges and commit suicide!!

Not sure about other areas of the country, but thieves will gut vacant buildings and homes of the copper pipe and electrical wiring, The size of the locks on some plumbers trucks locally tell the story. Most new construction is all plastic pipe.
