Well, I am not a fan of bashing cars... but the way this one is misrepresented sure leaves the door open.
Where to start. Chance the engine block was cast Feb 5 and not assembled until March 21: somewhere between slim and none. Possible? Yes. Likely? No.
How does an unrestored car get a Ford Caution Fan sticker on the shroud?
Car is indeed a special paint car, but came with white vinyl top. That means this unrestored original had the little pegs for the vinyl top trim ground off.
Undercarriage looks to have been hit hard with a rattle can. If it were truly an unrestored original, there would be plenty of overspray.
Radius on the rear strips by the back window is all wrong.
Grill should be silver in the egg crate portion, and painted body color on the surround.
May be just poor lighting, but the gas tank appears to have been painted flat black.
Where did you get a pic of the trim tag? I don't see one on the auction listing.
If I were selling a true original car with the original motor and trans, I would be darn sure to post clear pics of the pad stamp and partial vin stamps.
Proceed with caution.

thanks Lynn <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif
I asked the guy to email me a pic of the trim tag and he did so.

Yes it has a bunch of crap wrong with it but if it has the orig engine I would love to have it. I look at radiator, deep groove pullys, rad cap, cowl induction seal that is not on inside out and all those options, guages, console, rosewood, power windows, remote mirror, chambered, deluxe interior. Cool car that has potential. Need to see the engine #'s though.

yeah over about as far as the DZ and date - thanks firstgen
unless someone will vouch for the stamping as a legit looking LA stamping...is it an SS350 Los Angeles car, 327 car perhaps? i am a bit put off...anybody else?

Original color? Partial vins on tranny and engine appear to match but would need better photos.

Sam,
I think the engine stamp has the elongated 7 that you see in LA cars but the trans doesn't appear to be the same. That said, both stamps look pretty good to me on their own. Ed

That VIN stamp(s) could be from any V8 camaro built in LA
It's the DZ I am concerned about

Some LA Built Camaros also have the crayon marking X-code on the rear seat frame passengers side, just below where it meets the horizontal package tray shelf.

Wow that DZ looks like it has some fancy characters compared to every other DZ I have ever seen, however, I have only seen Norwood DZ stampings.

If the gas tank has never been removed, the Chassis Broadcast Copy <span style="text-decoration: underline">will</span> be there (Van Nuys 1969 Camaros only).

I agree. Engine is the key.
I also agree the elongated 7 is consistent with other LA cars. Problem is that the partial on the trans doesn't have the same elongated 7. They would have been stamped about the same time with the same gang set up. One other complication: looks like the trans was hit twice. Perhaps the first one was struck so poorly, that someone tried to duplicate it at a later date. Should have left it alone. Also, doesn't the "1" cast in the tranny case indicate it was cast in January? If so, it is looking more promising.
As for the DZ stamp, there is no difference between a Norwood DZ and an LA DZ. Both of those were stamped in Flint. It is only the partial vin that was stamped in LA or Norwood. I can't tell from that pic whether it is legit. I am betting that KurtS can tell. Also, although the ad says the engine was built 3/21, I can't make out the 3 at all. If it is really 2/21, that is a bit more realistic assuming they got the casting date correct.
Car just needs some serious investigation. Like Charley says, it does have some great options. Looking above the tank would be a great place to start. Born with engine and trans would make it a pretty good deal at theat price.

I come across a lot of Muncie 4 speed transmissions and double or even triple stamps are very common. That wouldn't scare me in the least bit.

I had an LA Camaro that had three hits/stamps on the trans.

It isn't the double stamp that bothers me. Happened from time to time. The last digit on the engine pad is a 7, which is "elongated" as has been seen on lots of LA cars. So, even if the guy double stamped or triple stamped the tranny, it should have the same elongated 7, and it does not appear that it does.
All I am saying is get it checked out thoroughly. Lots of questions.

I would think if seller is sure about the car he would agree to inspection by Jerry. My offer to him would be if Jerry inspects the car and it checks out I buy it and pay for inspection. If not seller pays for inspection.

I wrote it off when I got the picture of the DZ stamp & date. The VIN is fine, it's the DZ and the broach marks at that spot that are a mess - my bet is it was an SS350 at some point. Too many good cars out there to waste time on questionable ones. thanks for taking the time...

I think you're right about it being an SS350. I talked to the seller and he told me it had 2 fuel lines.

This pic shows one fuel line.

That DZ looks funky, but it could be the angle. Need a better pic to make a call.
Date is right on, btw.
