I recently came across this 69 Malibu parked in a cruise in area of a local car show. So anyway it found a new home. Kinda' wanted a 300 Deluxe Post car but I think Dan already found all of those... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif
It is a 307 air car, Bal built 08D small TT. TH350, PS,PB (added I think) , one repaint. The paint is very nice and flat, and the Burnished Brown looks to be a nice match, the metalic is a little large but I can live with it, Car has 87K miles on the clock, and is corrosion free and retains most all the original bright work. The door seam bottoms are perfect. Interior is a little tired but still very respectable. All the custom belts are there, and in ex condition. Has newer 15" ( Old style ) Cragers and new radials.
The grill is a replacement with the center trim added. I have a better OE grill and a very nice early 69 Walnut wheel and some other stuff from a couple of local 69 Chevelle boys.
I got a pair of front bucket seats with new Parchment covers installed with the car. Plan is to freshen up the guts, new carpet and headliner, and shoot the door panels and seat plastic and just drive the crap out of it next summer. The little 307 surprised me, runs OK. Edelbrock manifold and 4 bbl. Car has some kind of glass packs ? Sounds way better than a 307 should.
When time and $$ permits I would like to do a BBC, Tremec 5 speed, 12 bolt, and front disc brakes, and keep the air.
Sorry about the Malibu scripts on the front fenders <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/sick.gif , they were added by the last owner as far as I know.
The reddish brown <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/sick.gif top is out of here, I hate it ! The car was built with a Dk. Brown top. My thought now is to two tone the top in Champagne Gold, Phil "woj" gave me the idea one day when we were talking about vinyl top colors. Might try and get the top done soon, we'll see.
Anyway enjoy the pic's

Mike

Very nice car indeed. So what if it is a 307. That would make for a great cruising car around town.

Man, that would fit exactly what I'd like to find.

What kind price tag was on that, if you don't mind spilling the beans?

Thanks.

Guy was asking 14.5K or BO, ended up @ 13K, worth it to me, because it is so clean.
Rick, it runns nice up on the I state.

On another note, have any of you ever seen OEM sill plates like these, both sides the same, one rivet black, the other is plain, and note the black field around the rivet ?? They are also that way on the crimped side.
I have seen the two different rivets before on a Camaro sill plate. I think some rivets might have been supplied plain, or black.

Mike, I can only relate to the 70 Chevelle but yes I have seen that style rivet pattern many times.

Mike, Great score.....you should of told me you were looking for a Post Sedan....I would love to have you in my Post Sedan family. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif All kidding aside.....I love this new Malibu. I agree with everything your planning on doing, except.....I would NOT remove the Bench Seat. Bench Seats ROCK! I would loose the "Chevelle" front fender script and the way too long Exhaust Tips. Have you tried to look for the Build Sheet?

If you do find the Build Sheet you can verify the Deluxe Seat Belts <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif I would also say that the passenger side mirror was also most likely an add on by a previous owner.

Again, great score!

Nice score Mike..my Malibu is a B Brown with champagne top car!!..looks real nice!

m22mike

Dan
Will look for the built sheet when I get to the interior. The belts are 100% original, all dated 32nd week with the exception of the retractors and they are 34th wk. Left mirror is OE and dated 6 DMI 8. The RH mirror is dated 1973 or 83 ? it looks new.
If and when I get to any paint, the Chevelle script is gone.
The exhaust tips are some after market welded on stuff.

Nice car Mike.

I had a chance to see it in person last week while dropping off a part for the car. It is super clean (zero rust) and the color
combo looks great (except for that top). It can be driven as-is, but I know Mike will "kick it up a notch". It will undoubtedly become a nice
cruiser with little effort.

Thanks Dan, Someone had put 350 badges on it before I got it. Found some NOS pieces cheap. Not big demand for 250 call outs <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif, and yes it has a beautiful black cloth interior. I couldn't believe the condition of it. Especially for a California car.

My uncle ordered it's twin in August 1968, except for the engine. He ordered a 350-300hp., and his had factory 7" rally wheels. He drove it till 1979, when he was hit head on by a drunk lady, and the car was totaled.

Getting close to the Chevelle show in August, that show is going to blow up this year, can't wait to see the turnout. WOW !
Finished up a few things on the Malibu, Bench seats in. I got them already covered with the car, naturally they left off the buttons and now the covers have to come back off.. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif
New carpet with the floor bump, so now I have to put a manual box in it sometime <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/3gears.gif a very nice Walnut wheel.
Also a OE correct grill from Grady via. Al Galdi. Took some creative repair work but it came out nice and worth the effort. And painted up SS in style. Also some 69 Ohio plates and a cool "In and Out" burger frame.
Thanks to Phil and Grady for your help and with tech support and parts. And Shaun Price for one headrest I needed :bigthumbup

Great looking car, looks real nice now with the colored top.

A friend of mine here has a 69 Malibu that came Burnished brown with a cream white painted top, black vinyl interior,12 bolt,th350,327,and frt disc brakes. I will be sending him a picture of yours.

m22mike

I spent last winter working on my 89,000 mi. Malibu and doing some much need mechanical upgrades plus detailing the crap out of the engine bay so I don't through up when I open the hood.
So I accomplished what I set out to do with this car, and that is to once again prove you can not bring a very nice low buck car 100% up to speed and come out ahead $ wise, I might be a little upside down in her but what a great driver now, the Malibu is not going away anytime soon. I have only had the Camaro out once the year.
I added up receipts to date and I am north of 7000 bux, and that's just parts and no labor. And the 350 short block was donated by my son. Yet to come are headers and exhaust and I should be done.
Here is some of the major stuff.

AC....new condenser, dryer, expansion valve, 2 aluminum hard lines and both rubber line assemblies, and a rebuilt compressor. POA valve calibrated/tested. Yet to be serviced, with R12

Suspension....New Moog springs, all bushing front and rear, new lower ball joints, added rear sway bar and I boxed the rear control arms, added a GM 12 bolt with a GM 3.31 post and new Moser street axels, all new bearings and seals . The OE tie rod ends and upper ball joint were very serviceable. The 3.31 posi was a gift form a buddy, he was given this unit in 69 that a friend took off a new SS Chevelle that he raced.

Brakes....Added GM front disc brakes, rebuilt front and rear brake cylinders and front calipers, restored the GM brake booster and plated in cyanide cad, rebuilt the round hold off valve, added all new hard lines and rubber lines. Flushed and service with DOT 5.

Drive train/ engine bay...Removed the 307 and installed a fresh 9.5:1 cr 355 sbc with new Dart heads, a 650 Vac sec Holly, Crane hydraulic flat tappet cam, resealed the OE TH 350, and new U joints. Rebuilt the PS pump and PS gearbox, and replaced the 2 PS hose assemblies. Disassembled cleaned and repaired the steering column. It only needed a new ignition sector gear and a tension spring for the key warning buzzer contact. Rebuilt the wiper motor, replaced a damaged gear and installed a NOS terminal board that had a broken dropping resistor. Rebuilt the starter and the alternator.
Added the correct 350 engine stands with new motor mounts.

A special thank you to Eric Jackson for the great job he did in providing me with allot of tech help and direction in choosing the heads, cam, rockers, pushrods and head bolts, etc.
And the great Holly 650 he put together for me at a very reasonable cost, it performs perfect.

Here are some pic's as the car sits now with the new springs. You will notice the car had Cragers with Goodyear Eagle GT II's on it before. P235 60 15 front and P255 60 15 rear. Last Tuesday coming home from a cruise in I had a right front tire go flat on I271 <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif 3 hrs. later I get home on a flatbed, minus 125 bux... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif
Next morning I took off the flat and aired it up, split valve stem... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif
So The newer picture are with the SS 5 spokes wheels I once had on my Camaro with D Back redline P215 70 14's. The Chevelle needs a little more tire on it, but I may stick with the SS wheels and invest (ouch) in another set of redline tires.

Nice looking car Mike.

I noticed the vac advance is connected to the baseplate and not the timed port on the metering block. Does it idle OK without a "shake". I just redid a 69' 3310 which did not have a timed port -- had to get creative with the drill to establish a timed port on the RH side of front metering block. TAZ

The car is configured the way it is supposed to be.

I actually tried it both ways, it idles and runs VG using full ported vacuum.

I went with a VC1810 (B28) can. 8* distributer/16* crank. fully deployed at 8hg. Starts coming in around 5 HG. Tried it with ported vacuum and still did not act right. It was surging some because of the weaker vacuum signal, Switched to full manifold vacuum and now it is stable @ idle and I have just shy of 18hg.
I don't think I will change a thing, idles very smooth and throttle response is great.
I posted this link just recently in another thread, it is a good read, great info on vac advance and how it should work.

I looked the Chevelle over at NOCC.....as I do every year.
As expected, Mike did an Outstanding Job.
I loved everything I saw. I would own this Malibu.
Well done Mike <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Mike, awesome build. Kuddos to you and Eric for collaboration. You need a set of headers. The SS wheels look very nice and I love the stance with the new springs. Congrats!
