I sent this on to a couple of my Chevy clients... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/scholar.gif

A real shame that this kind of thing takes place <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/thumbsdown.gif

The Camaro 5 board is abuzz of this! Rumor has it the dealer will buy-back the Camaro from the owner.

Can't believe something like this still goes on.

The dealer did buy it back at over blue book, and donated $ to a charity, as did the car owner. Part of the agreement was to take down the utube video. So now that it's back up, what will happen to their agreement? Soap opera time?

I traded-in my bought-new '04 WRX STi for a new '07 Odyssey for the wifey. I make the deal on the minivan and then mention my trade-in. Salesman says can he have the keys so he can go look at the car. I had a nasty head cold so I stayed at the desk and watched the big-screen. The salesman was gone for 45 minutes. After 20 I ask another clerk where my salesman went. Don't know. I go outside and my STi is not there! YGBFKM. Back he comes with a big smile on his face and he--stupidly--begins gushing about how fast my STi is! I hold my tongue and let him keep talking. &quot;I took the shop mechanic [Honda dealership] for a drive in your car and we had it up to 110 on the freeway!&quot; He actually said that to my face! Then it was my turn. In my best outraged customer voice I said WHAT? YOU TOOK MY CAR OUT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION AND WERE DRIVING IT OVER 100 MILES PER HOUR? You could have heard a pin drop in the showroom. Several other sales were underway and it was like a morgue when I exploded. WHERE IS THE SALES MANAGER? The sales manager quickly came out and shushed me and I kept right on it in my no-I'm-not-going-to-keep-it-down voice. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT HAPPENS WHEN HE CRASHES OVER 100 MILES PER HOUR AND POSSIBLY KILLS SOMEONE WHILE HOT-DOGGING IN MY CAR WITHOUT MY PERMISSION? Got the Odyssey for invoice and free oil changes for two years and a free ski rack and roof carrier. Went back the next week for the parts pick-up and they had fired the salesman. My simple response to the sales manager was, &quot;Good.&quot;

Dealer posted at NastyZ that they were buying back the car for charity as stated, but as of the last time I saw this post would not comment about the employees status?

Can't believe they have not fired the employees that did this?

EDIT -&gt; Here's the thread the dealership starts at post #55

This is the their quote that got me:

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">&quot;A car of that style needs to be driven hard to test for the problem he stated.&quot;</div></div>

Talk about a poorly handled situation on the dealer's part. Could have been an opportunity for them to do the right thing and can those guys. Bad press spreads quickly.

With 8% out of work - would hope there might be a better player or two on the bench.

Unfortunately I'm sure this still happens way too often. The joyride is one thing and is bad enough. The most disturbing part of this story to me is that the mechanic seemed to have it all planned out as far as how much money he would gain from the owner and GM warranty for repair work he caused!!!! Sounds to me like he has done that <span style="font-style: italic">MANY</span> times!

When I was in School, I had a friend who worked at our local Chevrolet Dealer which is right by the Interstate. He told us that all cars were washed after any kind of service. Each car was air-dried at triple digit speed on the Interstate. He also told us that during this &quot;service&quot; it was not uncommon for other problems to surface that may or may not be covered under warranty.

I've had several very bad experiences over the last several years with people driving my cars and motorcycles and it will never happen again. It's usually people that don't own nice and/or fast cars themselves that like to beat on other peoples stuff. Real car guys usually have a bit of respect and restraint when driving other people's cars.

Every time I take one of my Old cars in for an alignment or something I can't do myself. I stick close and crank my rev-limiter down to 3 grand.
20 years ago I took my Monte Carlo to the exhaust shop, Droppped it of and went to work, was going to pick it up after work. When my wife called saying the police were at our house because I ran from the Cops, I freaked out. Talked to the police and they met me at Muffler Man.
Guy beat the snot out of my fresh 383 , Took the Mechanic away in handcuffs. Driving my car home the motor started Knocking. BAD .. Shop wouldn't do anything. Said how do we know you didn't just do it!!!! Really !!!!

Why can't everyone treat things like they are your own? If by chance you do break it, you pay to get it fixed.
