The 2012 Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals (MCACN) show featured a display with 6 of the 8 original Trans Am convertibles... it was pretty amazing to see. Here's Charley with the story:

We'll post more MCACN videos soon for those who did not get to see this awesome event in person.

WOW, that was awesome Charley! I had no idea you guys had pulled that off. It is a crying shame Gary here won't get involved in stuff like that; he used to own one or two (I laid hands on one, my claim to fame) of those 8 and still has several HT's.

Charles represents!!

Great job, Charley and hat's off to the V8TV crew. This is the first of several installments that are in the works. Kevin and his team "get it" and do a great job of showing what we are all about. Please help us spread the word by telling people to check out the YouTube video's as they are posted!

An enthusiastic atta-boy and Thank you goes out to Chas for making this display happen as well as to the owners and care takers of the Trans Ams who shared them with us that weekend.

I would have made the trek just to see that one display.

Thanks again to everyone who participated.

I heard that Bernie Ecclestone said he'd rather be at MCACN than F1 in Austin <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

Don't discourage yourself Charley. Do like I do and think of yourself by your mental/maturity age! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/wink.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/whistle.gif

One of those cars was in North Vancouver years ago. It was always parked on Pemberton street in front of where the owner worked. He was always told that it wasn't a real Trans Am, so he repainted it silver. Then there was something in Hot Rod magazine about Trans Am convertibles, and Hot Rod saying there weren't any, but a couple of guys wrote in saying they had one. After some research, they claimed 3 built, then 5, then 8 after a few months. The guy in North Van researched his, and it turned out to be real! Cool stuff, and great to see the survival rate.
I have to get to that show one day.....

There was definitely a TA ragtop in Vancouver years ago and there was an article about it in MCR. The silver you you refer to is a hardtop, the ownwer still brings it out to the Can Tire gathering on occasion. GC knows the car and owner and the issue with the Silver paint, still wont change it back to original color.

Supposedly one in PA that the lady who owns (owned?) it got tired of people bugging her about it so she had it changed to reflect more of a standard Firebird convertible so she could continue to enjoy it. Maybe to gold in color?

Funny, I could have sworn it was a ragtop. This is back in 78 or 79.

Hopefully I can make it to one of the Can Tire nights this year.
