Okay Darren, here's the gospel truth on the Yellow car. Yea, I'm still in shock too! So, here's the chapter that Bob just told me......(someone, turn up my oxygen valve)
<span style="font-style: italic">"Jeff, over the weekend I got the rest of my pictures that were at my ex's house. My oldest daughter understood the importance of these pics and knew they were mine. There were a lot of pics from my teen years with car, motorcycle, party and racing pics. The last post on my Birthday thread stated how that vintage pic was priceless. The enclosed scan of the 69 Camaro is truly priceless. They were taken at the same time as the 1st pic you showed. I've always known but didn't have the pics to back it up the fact that your car was ordered with the aluminum heads L-89 option. Now we have those pics to share. Its one of 311 L-89 Camaros ,but i've always heard maybe <span style="font-weight: bold">1 of 14 L89's with an auto trans</span>. That engine was pulled and sat on the parts department floor and as far as I remember was parted out. Well , you're probably sitting there shocked and taking oxygen by now,so take a deep breath and let it all sink in . I'll be talking to you....Bob</span>

WoW! These are priceless as well. An L-89 removed, put on the dealers floor.

Great car!
I took the liberty to "restore" the car, well just the pictures.

This one didn't have that much yellow in it to enhance.

Awesome pictures - look at the orange overspray on the exhaust manifolds - with the aluminum heads. Did they mask the heads.....?

Very cool Jeff!
The fun part of looking at these old pics is picking out the assembly oddities ,the upside down T ,the careless AIR pump hose routing thru the heater hoses and stretched across the heater hose bracket . The hoses and wiring just tossed together enough to make it out the door, makes me chuckle everytime a discussion about what is correct and whats not. Also check the deck lid sitting about 1/2 inch high.Remember these pics were taken about 5 hours after the car came off the transporter. The smudges and dirt on the engine were still there from being assembled at the factory, all we had done is ck the oil ,bolted the wheels on and hit the road.I had worked at Chevy and Pontiac dealerships since I was 13 years old and could write a book just on screwups that came from the factories.
I'd read that book.......

I don't see that exaggerated over spray either on the water pump by pass hose...

Those are great pics but for the life of me I can't figure out the orange overspray on the exhaust manifolds.

awesome pics and car....based on the orange overspray, could this have been dealer installed alum. heads?? I assume GM would not have changed the heads after assembling and painting the motor... things that make you go...'hmmmmmm'..
awesome car!!! Good Luck with it!!
.... or was this car "dealer exchanged" .... and the heads were installed at the previous dealer? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif
My experience with L89 Corvettes is there is overspray on the exhaust manifolds. Who knows why, but it's accepted that the exhaust has orange overspray from the engine painting. I think this is a real L89 car.....So cool...........

you're right, but how did it hit the manifolds and not the heads(?) is the question at hand....odd.

It doesn't look like any orange is on the head at all and quite a bit on the exhaust manifolds. I also never liked the restored cars with the orange painted heater bypass hose and front of the intake manifold. This pic shows how clean they typically were.
The hood hinges look bare as if they have no phosphate plating like the hood latch shows. Early smog valve with the wire standoff. Great pics thanks for posting!

Love the feathered overspray on the inside of the hood!

'67 Corvette BB's were the same way - non-L89's (including L-88's with aluminum heads) had the heads painted, but the heads were masked off on L-89's (only 16 were built), and the L-89 was the only '67 BB Corvette with chrome valve covers. Must have wanted to give the owner something to show what he paid the extra $368.00 for. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Considering Bob Wagoner, BWAG here, ordered the car (he worked at Schmidt Chevrolet) and took delivery of it, thus taking pics fresh off the transporter as he's quoted as having said a few posts up, that question is null and void.
