Comparatively little is known about non-Yenko COPOs. There is limited data on colors, equipment, etc.

Several known dealers of COPOs ordered RS: Emmert was one, Berger, Frost, Courtesy, Malcom Konner sold RS COPOs. Several still exist. Courtesy had its own COPO hood stripe. Two ZL1s were RS and both survive.

Emmert is known to have ordered several special paint COPOs. I saw one at SC-Martin, MI in the '80s. It was Can-Am White [Corvette color] with a medium green standard interior.

Talk to Jim Mattison at PHS here ordered all of Emmerts COPO Camaros (He was dating the daughter of the owner of Emmert at the time while working in the Central office at GM) and remembers them quite well they were all loaded up or had special colors.

The only X22 code COPO 9561 which I have ever seen was certified and included in Ed. Cuneens COPO connection book. It was not from Emmert.

"The X22 Code Copo which I was referring to ,I believe belongs to Bob and Larry Adock.

The info I have shows that it was sold out of Courtesy Chevrolet in Sebring Ohio.

It is an early 01B car with 713 Trim and 72 72 Paint with X22."

The Emmert COPOs which I have seen were not X22 Camaros.

this one has been in storage since 1980. was purchased at Emmert buy a gentleman that lived in southfield Mi. this car still has the P-O-P in the glove box and yes it is also a feb. car. with paint delete "- -" code and is a rally sport with houndstooth interior 41,000 miles it was origanily and ugly green if i can call it that.we have de- coded this car from head to toe with some help from the late Al Maynerd and the book bt Hooper. we have never showed it but we do drive it around a couple times a year.

i will talk to the owner to see if he wants to post numbers? i do know it was purchased in the late 70s' by the current owner totaly disassemnled and every nut bult washer etc. was bagged and tagged. the name on the P-O-P is B.B. Auton. i have looked and looked to find him but to no avail.I have spoken to Jim Mattison about this car but that was before we really knew what it is and he kind of gave me the cold shoulder like he didn't believe us.

Emmert was known to have ordered COPOs in a Pontiac color, Verdoro Green. The remains of one of them was in the swap meet at SC-Indy in the '90s. Haven't heard of it since.

A little thread de-rail, here's some 1969 photos of an RS that was sold new at MacDonald Chev-Olds in Halifax,NS. They sold lots if high perf stuff, and Bob MacDonald also ran a speed shop as seen by the sponsorship on the doors. I don't know if this car still exists, but is/was rumored to have been a COPO car.

Mine had POP plus papers & history & was X-11 double COPO - Cortez/black vinyl top. There are color pics of it in the first edition of Jerry's book. There was a beautiful lemans blue RS COPO right next to my car. Also a freshly restored HO ZL1 was there. Where was your car?

The guy I spoke with at MCACN had said the Emmert car he was looking for belonged to a friend of his, orig owner. He had no interest in finding the car and gave the paperwork to him. The window sticker I looked at was for a Emmert double COPO RS with a custom interior AM-FM and special paint. I believe it was painted a Cadilac Gold. I can't remember the exact name, but after looking at the 69 chip chart, none rang any bells. If I'm remembering the VIN correctly it started with 6608XX... Same car???

home in the garage.this car has never been shown. it was purchased in in the late 70s' tottaly disassembled and the owner has never shown it. it didn't recieve that paint job until 1990 and that was before we new that it was even a copo all he new was he wanted a big block car to go with his z-28. i stumbled on to the P-O-P around 1992 when i opened the glove box and it was with the owners manual in plastic. if we new what it was we would have put it back to original color. he new it had paint delete in the tag so he figured what was the difference in the color it got painted. if only we new back then what we know now.this car has never been rusted or cut apart it was just assembled and painted. It even retains its original headlight vacum hoses and check valves although we did buy one of those rebuild kits for the headlight doors because some of the nylon bushings were broke. this car has an am radio with the original oval antenna. i think the only 2 parts it does not have is the reverse rod to activate the back up lights and the retainer for the clutch spring that goes on the exhaust manifold flange. Jim from heartbeat city remakes a good looking reverse rod but we have never goten around to getting one.

What I'm trying to say is...... I'm wondering if this is the same car I saw the window sticker for. I never saw a car. The guy that showed it to me never saw the car. It was sold by his friend in the 70's..I know Emmert sold some weird cars, but Two RS Double COPOS w/ spec paint? I think all he wanted to know is if it still existed.

this car was that pontiac green originaly and is a X22 with 713 interior.i think the guy who owned first might have had something to do with Gratiot auto parts? probably a different car. when i spoke with Jim Mattison he said that he ordered to many of those cars to remember each one exclusively

12-19-2012, 01:53 PM
Wow, different car. I did send him to talk with Mattison, not sure if he made contact with him or not. I've always heard Emmert sold some cool cars and it looks like two were RS Double COPO'S.

lets not forget that being in Detroit and so close to GM who knows what they could have came up with back in those days. Makes me wish i could go back and order a new one.what i would like to know is how come just over the last 25 or so years these cars are coming out of hideing.did we not no what these cars are? i was only 5 yrs old in 69 so i am to young to remember.Seems like people watch that Barret-Jackson and they think they have a piece of gold or something?the owner of this car is a used car dealer so to him it has just been another car that is till we did our homework in 1993 after we found that P-O-P in the glove box. he says that this coming summer he wants to take it to one of those shows? and let people pick it apart. we Know that it really needs to be taken apart again and detial every part with the correct paint and pencil markings etc. but bassicaly this is an unrestored just repainted car. it still has all the original parts (dash seats carpet even the original t-3 headlights from 1969)its praobably a piece of GM history.

afternearly three years of searching i finally found the original owner to the RS copo from Emmert chevrolet, he about s@%$t when i asked him if he bought a camaro in 1969. He currently lives in Dallas TX and was amazed that i found and called him. He is going to look and see if he has any paperwork or pictures from when he owned the car. I spoke with him for almost an hour as he did most of the talking. For you guys who have little or no info on the copos from Emmert he told me that they had about 7 or 8 sitting on the dealer floor and this one was the most appeling to him with the special pontiac firebird green paint and the houndstooth and rs double copo. it turns out his wifes aunt was the owners daughter and Jim Mattison was dating her. He also told me that he never had the car at the drag strip but used to street race it on Woodard ave. he said that after he bought the car he put in a Racer Brown camshaft and that made it run like a bat out of hell!!! I sent him the same pictures that i posted on this sight and he replied that he still has a son that lives close to us and when he comes in town next he would love to see the car and would LOVE to bt it back but its not for sale. what a christmas present that phone call was to him as i called him the day after christmas. i find it hard to believe that being Detriot and home of GM that no one has any info on the copos from Emmert

Just ran across this post on X22 COPO cars. My friend ran across a car in 1990 that was for sale locally and I went with him and verified that it was a COPO camaro. It is a X22,console,gauges,tint,
M40,9737,remote mirror,D80,black vinyl top,std black interior. It still has the BE rear, original M40, but the original motor was replaced. The original -- paint appeared to be verdoro green or some Cadillac firemist green of some kind. The car has been repainted a different color prior to him buying it. This car did not come from Emmert, but I wanted to mention that there are cars like this out there.

What's the build date? Or better yet, got a pic of the tag?
It can't be a Firemist paint - it required a special gun to shoot.

Kurt: 06A VIN 124379N6633XX PNT --
My original Copo was an 06A VIN 124379N6606XX. Hugger orange/ white standard, 4 spd. I sold my car back in 1995.
I do not know how to upload pictures (62 years old), but when we removed the sill plates and quarter window rubbers, it most definately is not fanthom green, and appears to have too much metallic for verdoro green.

Kurt: It may be a PNT -B, I will call the owner tonight for some more info. I am recalling part of this from memory and I have an old sheet of notes about his car that gave me some of the info.

I googled Rampur Green and I see that it was a 69 Cadillac color. The color chip allows me to magnify the color chip larger, but it is hard to tell, but it is similar in that it is a dark green with alot of metallic.
