It's interesting to note that modern Camaro &quot;tuners&quot; are celebrating that their <span style="font-style: italic">branded</span> new ZL1 Camaros are breaking into the 10s, averaging 10.8 to 11.2 seconds on the quarter-mile. Impressive indeed, but also worth noting is that Joel Rosen ran consistent 11.1s (and set an AHRA record at 11.3s) on 7-inch tires in 1967 in the Baldwin-Motion/Motion Supercar Club/CARS Magazine '67 Camaro. It was powered by a stock L88 with single-four-barrel intake and headers. Granted it didn't have full power and AC, but we did sort it out in traffic on Sunrise Highway before going to the track. Let's hear it for the good old days!

Very Cool pic Marty!! Joel knew what he was doing back then and probably still knows more today about how to make a motor run on basic principles than most of these mechanics today can with computer assistance. One thing I always wondered, on the car in the pic, on the drivers door, in your book you have a pic of this car rolling back off a trailer getting ready to race and you can read the words Driver then it looks like it says Joel Motion .What does it say?

Looks like it does say Joel Motion. This stuff was changed all the time, sometimes it was Joel &quot;Mr. Motion&quot; Rosen. These racecars were always being changed: lettering, paint, wheels, engines, etc.

What ever details we had on the car are in my Motion book.

Marty's book does say that the car was a base model Grenada Gold Camaro delivered by Simonin. The L88 427 was a replacement motor provided by Mahler. The car was painted white and lettering was added as well as Cragars and slicks. I would assume it was either a 327 or 307 maybe even a 250-6cyl. Either way, all that really matters is the racecar that it was turned into. I believe it hasn't been found. I think it said that somewhere in the book also

I can't say for sure but I think theres an old article called &quot; Do The Factory Hop&quot; and I might be wrong but I don't think it has the big block 427 fender emblems on it in the pics.

I believe Hi Performance Cars magazine (October 1967) has a 6 page article on this car with pictures. Page 16 mentions it was an original 6 cylinder car.

I do not believe that car was ever tubbed when Joel Rosen and Bill Mitchell ran it.

My engine builder used do head work for Joel back in the 60's and said a lot of their cars started out as six cylinder cars.

Not sure where you got that info from, but all Baldwin-Motion customer 427 Camaros started out as 396/375 cars. There was an active secondary market for the 396/375 takeout engines, no market for Sixes.

Where did the 396s go? Back to Baldwin or did Motion sell them.

Essentially they went back to Baldwin Chevrolet where the Parts Dept (John Mahler) sold them.

The original racecar-conversion and I believe the first demo car were not big-block cars, they were pulled off the Baldwin-Chevrolet lot. I think the first demo car was a small-block V8 car. After that cars were ordered with 396/375 engines to make conversion simpler and more economical (good return on takeout engines). When you build limited-production cars there are always some that deviate from the norm based on model availability, customer demands, etc.
It is safe to say that Baldwin-Motion cars were ordered from the factory with the highest horsepower powertrains available.

I think it was a SB V8 car although the article states it was a six.

There are early pictures of it with SB V8 flag on the fender in the stock location but no SS emblems or nose stripe.

The later photos show a 427 V8 flag on the fender in the stock 396 location
