I probably sound like a broken record however I will have to hand it to rollers, solid or hydraulic. You can get everything you want as far as drivable and not give up anything over a flat tappet when it comes to performance. If you are not wanting to drop the coin for a roller and want a nice hydraulic you could go with the factory L68 vette cam or L71 if you want a solid, with the 4 spd you have options.

What intake & carb do you have on this? I think these are cast intake & qjet on the impalas?

At any rate, I have a 454 that made 450hp & 530 tq spec`d as follows (very mild combo)

Crane 284 hyd flat tappet cam (228 @ .050, .544 lift on a 112)
10.5 comp.
cast iron GM qjet intake
Qjet carb
Ex manifolds (dyno numbers with headers)
ported 049 heads with bigger valves

Has a slight lope (stock musclecar sound) but pulls like mad... 530 tq came in at 2500 rpm...

Crane 133801. I used one in a <span style="font-style: italic">very</span> mild 9-1 427 that ran 12.70's in a 3600 lb Camaro in the Ohio summer heat (can share details if you wish, don't want to clutter up the thread).

Outstanding torque from right off idle, pulled hard to to ~5500 rpm. Slight lope, less noticeable than an L78 cam (also another outstanding choice).

Beautiful car BTW. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

Triple black is so cool! Can you post a picture of the trim tag on the firewall? I'd be interested in seeing the pop too (with the owners info covered) as I maintain the 67-69 Impala SS427 registry/database. A friend of a friend has a 67 SS427 built about 1,300 before this one. They were probably built the same week.

Have you checked for a broadcast card under the seats?

Yours is the 75th 67 SS427 in the list.

i found 2 broadcast sheets, both in rear seat, one in the bottom and one in the back.the original owner ordered this car to race, but after about 4 or so races, his wife made him stop. Her exact quote was&quot; We were young this was a 4 thousand dollar car!&quot; He spun a bearing in the original engine after only 900 miles(actaully done it twice and finally got a new short block. (Its and April block and a Dec car)from heads up is original to the car.he then bought a 55 from his uncle and the impala became his tow car(notice hitch) and his wifes daily driver after a 3.08 gear swap for the next 17 years til it broke a ring land and started smokin.i have some pics when it was new.ill get them scanned and post them in a few days.

Thanks for posting those. What's the build date on the cowl tag, 12B or 12C? When was the car sold, soon after it was built? The six digit number on he top right of the window sticker will be on the broadcast cards and the cowl tag.

By the way, 3 of the 75 67's are Tuxedo Black (2 with black vinyl top including this one).

12c is the build date,Mr Mathews ordered the car after seeing one in Bowling Green belonging to Pat Cassidy, whom was a local drag racer.the pop is dated 12/28/66. they were both triple black with four speeds! Mr Matthews told me Pats car had a m21 trans.it would be cool to know the wherabouts of the other one.In a strange twist it wound up with the original m20 out of my car.

With a cam and headers you can't go wrong, try driving it for a longer while, you could like it.

Plowman, the cam is huge,im guessing over .600 lift.it makes no bottom end whatsoever.its really no fun to drive.

427 Muscle Car with a cam ,headers, and has the lope you like, try it for a while. It takes a different dance step to drive it. The carb or the tune or other things could be bad too. I like the car and you have fun with your car too.
