View Full Version : Another dumb question - hubcentric rings

Not restoration related, but technical. I have a beautiful set of Firestones to mount on my original rallye wheels for the 69 (thanks to GTO Don!)

However, as easy as it would be to do burnouts, I don't plan to drive it like I stole it, at least not on those tires. So.... I got a smokin deal on some center line auto drags to have fun with some later model rubber. 15x7 fronts and 15x8.5 rears.

Chevy hub size is 2.783 inches. Center line hub size is 3.187. I figured I would get a set of hubcentric wheels to make sure they are dead center. I don't like using the lugs to center the wheels, as there is ALWAYS some tolerance, and therefore, they are always a bit off center.

Can't find the rings anywhare. Can make some using a lathe, but would rather spend $15 on some that are already made. Anyone know of a source?

Converted to mm (which is what all of the rings seemed to be sized by) they are 70.6882 and 80.9498. I did find some that were 80.95 outside, which would probably work, but they were incorrect for the inside.

You are right. Those are hard to find sizes. I was lucky and found my sized rings at Jegs. They had a larger selection than summit. I even tried Amazon and they dont have that size. You might want to spend some time on a lathe...

Turns out no one makes these. Hard to believe. I have seen hundreds of old Chevy's with Center Line wheels.

I know some guys claim the Cener Lines are "lug centric" instead of hub centric. There really is no such thing.

So... I special ordered them to size. Cost about double or triple as the off the shelf sizes.

I'm a big fan of having my wheels hub centric and centered on the wheel register instead of depending on the lug nut circle. I used to make my own in the lathe with a tight interference fit that taps onto the axle with a dose of red Loctite. I never knew that Jegs sells them now.
