I don't know if it merits a new forum (i.e. "PARTS WANTED FOR PERSONAL USE", but I would really like to know when someone posts in the "Parts Wanted" section, if it is a part for his or her personal car for personal use.
Point is: if I have a one of those obscure parts that I am not likely to need, I am usually willing to just give it to a member. Others have done the same for me, and it is greatly appreciated. Not talking about a restored dated carb or anything like that.
Even with the more expensive parts, I am much more likely to give someone a really good break on price if it is for his or her own vehicle.
To me, there is a big difference between the guy who needs a correct front metering block for his 4053 carb just because he would like it to be "right" than the guy who needs the correct metering block because now he will be able to sell the carb for an extra $XX.
I mean no disrespect to those on the board who buy and sell parts as part of their livelyhood. Nothing wrong with that. Also have no problem selling parts at a fair price to the pros that are restoring high end cars. Heck, I sold a pair of roof rail weatherstrips for $2,000 knowing they were going on someones Yenko resto. On the other hand, if someone on the board needed one of the little push pin retainers for his original looking car, and I had an extra, I would be glad to drop it in an envelope for free.
So, at least for me, I plan to start each "parts wanted" ad with the following:
"Needed for my own personal car that is not for sale"...
