except the copo prototype story has been dropped in favour of unsubstantiated DANA Chevrolet lineage. Isn't there a thread on this car from a couple years ago?

this is the original copy from the Autabuy classified ad, in 2010:

This is one of the finest restorations you will ever see on a 1969 Camaro. This car is one of the most unusual cars, with some of the most wildest options I have ever seen. This 69 camaro is a big block car L88 according to its block, it will not run on pump gas, the car will run on 108 octane that it explains its milelage. It is the original motor to the car, broach marks appear to be authentic along with its stamping. The alternator, distributor, appear to be original to the car. The car has been restored exactly how it was received. The motor has some very unique options, an engine lift stop cabling system on both sides of the motor, curved neck radiator, aluminum water pump, smog equipment, original L88 oil breather cap, the restoration of the motor and engine bay is incredible. The transmission is a Muncie Rock Crusher M-22, Hurst Shifted, and has been completley gone thru and shifts flawlessly. The rear end is a 12 bolt posi trac, and 4.10 gearing. This car is equipped with a JL-8 4 wheel disc braking system that has some interesting stampings on the caliper of XP and EXP, which we have been told that this car could very well have been a race division car or something of a experimental project for somebody in GM. The same stampings have been noticed on the wheels of the car, and the trim tag on the drivers firewall. This is an original panel car, the hood might have been replaced, the stampings are still in the upper drip rails of the quarters. The original wheels are mounted with Goodyear polyglass redline tires, the car as you see it is in its racing setup. The car has a original spare with the inflator kit, along with one of the wildest options I have seen is called Liquid Tire chain mounted in the trunk fender wells. The car is a radio delete, and a heater deleted car which is just incredible. There is no power steering on the car, and the car has reverse lockout on the column. The underside of this car is concourse and as close to flawless as possible. The interior of this car is the same as its underside, spectacular! We have been told that the engineering dept at GM would pull a car or cars from the line for experimantal purposes etc. Many have said they pulled small blocks and big blocks usually out of a fleet run due to they were less expensive. The black and white copy of the protecto plate book shows this car was a big block car and the motor, transmission, and rear end match the embossed plate on the booklet. The numbers are as follows Motor TO212MS, Transmission P9B04, Rear End BE0107G, it is a Los Angeles Car 124379L. There is no plate in the black and white copy. This is the only piece of documentation to this car, and to define it real, a real piece of documentation would have to be present. Although the copy justifies its components we are selling the car as is, and we are not and can not say it is an original piece. Looking at many reproductions, and clones that are for sale over $100,000 this car can not be compared to anything of the such, it is the finest 1969 camaro in existance and that I personally have ever seen, the car is incredible, if we had the original POP this car would set the benchmark at auction block. Serious inquiries only, real offers being accepted.

Someone built a gorgeous car. I don't believe you could get a heater delete in 69, although I'm not sure about exports. Radio/heater delete, but has liquid tire chain and JL8? Still a beauty!

I believe Hawaii-bound cars could get heater delete. Maybe the liquid tire chain was for the sand drags there <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

That's really the saddest part about all of this. It is a really sweet car. Sinister looking and probably runs like a bat out of hell.

It has a 140 speedo, which was only on cars ordered with COPO 9737. Does it have the other parts that came with that COPO? It should have the 15 x 7 Rally wheels and the F 41 suspension. Only one documented LA COPO that I'm aware of. When was it built?
Whatever else is said, one very fine car. One other question, didn't the L-88 run on 102 octane?

----Arent we all pretty sure what has happened here??? Not even remotely throwing stones as the car is very cool, but I see no scenario where this car could have been assembled as it sits at any GM factory. Is it nice,,,oh yah,,,very nice, but that really doesnt get the value up or tell us anything, does it? Most of us on the sight can manage "nice"! Even I can do that! 140 Speedos are available, and the other anomalies are just that. Id love to be proven wrong but I think we all know I wont be........Bill S

Personally, and this is just my opinion and nothing more, I do not believe you could build that beast for under $75KUS. If I could get it for $65KUS clone money, I would bake the dog meat out of those bogus ply tires! And the looks I would get when I pull in and pop the hood at Donut Derelicts on Saturday mornings? Priceless. Not saying this is one, but if I were it would be just my own opinion and nothing else, there have been some really nice tributes available lately. Just pricey. Guy has to be upside down on it.

and it is back again...looks like the Dana Chevrolet lineage didn't work out for them so now this "conversion" exists thanks to Mann Chevrolet...I wonder what dealership they'll pick for the next auction?
