We would be seeing lift off, if only there was a larger tire on this Stage1 <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/burnout.gif

The beauty of the 1970-72 Buicks.....is having the ability to stuff one heck of a large rear tire under that Muscular Body <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

I think a '70 GS is a better looking car than a '70 Chevelle! Love those bulging quarter panels that are just waiting for a monster 295/65 Drag Radial. Even the Buick GSX is a bit "loud" for my tastes and I much better like a regular GS. I had a bitchin' black (is there any better color for a Buick?!), no-vinyl top, 4-speed '70 GS a few years ago that has been on the list of cars I wish I didn't sell, and that's a very short list.

Mark,

I like the way you think <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/worship.gif

Too bad the General did not make a few of these.....

A few years back or so a ( I helped a buddy transfer
All of his rusted out 71 gs 455 into a little old ladiy 71 post coupe
That car turned out fantastic !! Black with black bench seat interior
Fooled a lot of people in thinking it was a factory build...
Car was sold off eventually and disappeared .....
Probibly stripped out for parts ...

Dave,

I wonder if this '71 Post is still out there? Got any pictures of it? Great story, thanks for sharing.

How much would you like to drop the HAMMER on a Stage 1 4speed stocker?

Back in the day I mini tubbed my 73 Camaro. I removed the inner wheel housing, removed the frame rils from the shock tower back, removed the shock tower, cut the efront half of the rail flat on the outside, and installed a regular tub and the tub was 17.5" deep. A friend had a 70-72 Buick Skylark and the wheel opening from the factory was almost that deep. There is plenty of room under these cars.

Why did I know Dan would be bonkers over the stealthy post? I do have to say the '70-'72 GS/Skylark is a good lookin' body style. I'm biased toward Oldsmobiles, but that A-body Buick is a solid second place, above the Chevelles and Ponchos of the same era. I also think the '64-'65 Buick Skylark post is a bitchin' body, too.

I just went back and looked at the first pic if the E/SA Buick. Looks like 7" tires and the timeless chrome slots. I put chrome slots on my '64 f85 Cutlass post when I was 16---thought I could beat Don Garlits!

----The Buick sponsored by Len Immke brought back some good memories. Len's Buick dealership was once the largest Buick dealer in the world. Not only that but Len bankrolled the guy that started Wendy's mainly because he felt his employees were taking too long for lunch. Ol Len made a fortune off that. At one point Len was also a huge vintage car collector. He kept three separate vintage car dealers alive for many years. I know because I worked for one located on Cape Cod that specialized in vintage Buicks, a real character named Dick Garbitt. I also knew well another supplier of collector cars to Len named Friendly Bob Adams from southern Wisconsin. A really great friend whose son (also a good friend) Bob Adams junior now restores cars in Scottsdale AZ........Bill S

Thanks. Great history. That's one reason I'm posting these photos: to hear the story(s) behind them.
