The original owner is from Erie PA and had the car until 2010, where it was purchased from him by a dealer and sold to a collector in VA who sold it to us.

In 1971 the Z21 trim group was not apart of the RS package?
Interesting... learn a new thing everyday.
GL - saw the car with Eddie as RS. Cool pc.

Steve....the style trim consisted of the chrome molding that goes across the back of the hood by the wipers and down each door, chrome roof drip moldings, and a chrome ring around the center of each tail light lense. From what I see this car has the style trim. And I must say this is a very nice car my friend.....good luck with the sale!

Thanks,
That is what I was saying.....it's has style trim which Dan seemed to be questioning......?
If it had The RS option in 70 -71, Z22 then it should have come with Z21 also.

Sorry Steve - I must be confusing cars. I took pics of a Z at Russo with the RS pack and no Z21. I swore it was this car but clearly I'm wrong. I even commented to Eddie about it. I'm sorry gents... I'll keep quiet from now on.

No problems with discussions, that is what makes this site the best. You were confusing me, which is not difficult to do at times. I thought I was missing something.
I didn't even see the other Black '71 or '72?
Regarding the 1971 in NC, while it is black, it has a white vinyl interior, not the original motor and has been repainted. It seems to be a nice Z28..........just not on par with this one.

Would probably have to be a 71. Black wasn't an available F-body color in 1972 unless special ordered.

It was sold from the same dealership and lived in the same town as my 66 L78 ragtop...
They are both survivor type cars and now 40+ years later are both in the Chicagoland area.
Pretty cool
Hey Stefano,
Give me a call when you get the chance

<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/drool.gif That's one nice ride! Must've been the last year of the solid lifter engines??? Not sure but was it '71 or '72 as being the last year Z/28's came with a 12 bolt posi...? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

I am pretty sure that 1972 was the last year of the solid lifter LT-1 and 1970 was the only year for the 12 bolt in the F-Body.

x2, with the exception that I am 100% certain that 72 was the last year for the solid lifters.
All LT1's were solid lifter, the '73 Z28 was L82 with no solid lifters.

The 73 L82 had all the other good stuff of a LT-1 including forged pistons, 2.02 heads, screw in studs, steel crank and pink rods but it had the hydraulic cam and Q-jet carb. Has anybody seen a Rally sport front end on a 73 Camaro after January 1973? I always wondered if the option was discontinued because of the increased bumper regulations.
I think the RS was available until 01-01-73. My college roommate had a RS Z28 and I never thought that was available in 1973 until years later. It was quite a bear of a car.
Bill Pritchard
01-28-2013, 10:56 PM
The RS option was available later than 1/1/73. A friend of mine factory ordered a new RS/Type LT/Z28 well after the first of the year, and got it. Unbeknownst to most folks who try to add the RS option onto a 73 Camaro after-the-fact, there are numerous special 'one year only' reinforcements on the front structure necessary to comply with the revised 1973 bumper standards.
Thanks Bill, I didn't know that it was available after 01/01/73.

I just sold an 06D Z28 car that had the RS option.
I drove this car across the block at Russo (I was a volunteer driver), it was one of the nicer cars there and a great survivor. A very tight, crisp car.
Good luck with the sale.

Wrong valve covers.
92646
02-15-2013, 09:01 PM
What's the difference on the valve covers and what makes them wrong for this car? If I read the window sticker right the tall rear spoiler came with the car as part of the Z/28 option by the time this car was ordered?
roeville
02-15-2013, 09:52 PM
1971 valve covers have a rubber oil fill plug and are machined different at the flanges. The stock rear spoiler for a 71 is the low spoiler. The tall spoiler was an option (COPO 9676 I think).

In regards to the spoiler, my ever-failing memory seems to recall that the tall 3 pc rear spoiler was only a COPO option in 1970 and early in the 71 model year....by mid 71 production, the tall 3 pc spoiler became standard. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif
Stefano

Bill, I believe that you are correct. Also I don't see why an early to mid '71 couldn't have 70 style valve covers?
al8apex
02-15-2013, 11:35 PM
They milked the "optional" tall spoiler through the 71 model year, the standard spoiler was the one piece and ordering the D80 OPTION got you the tall rear spoiler at $46.35 extra. If you ordered a Z28 and didn't specify the D80 option, you got the front and the one piece rear for no charge.
In 1972 the spoiler was optional (now the 3 piece "tall" spoiler) and the car with option Z28 DID NOT include the spoilers ... RPO D80 cost $77 and included both front and rear spoilers, the front being shipped off the car for dealer installation.

It could, and it would be understandable for someone to install them because the 71 valve covers are very difficult to find but I doubt this car had 1970 valve covers at mid-year. My 71 01D Norwood car had 71 valve covers.
No one has mentioned the incorrect shift knob? Or smog?

The COPO code is 9796
I have never seen a real post 1970 Z COPO, all of the build sheets I have seen group into mid 1970. Maybe Phil could shed some light on this? Also, as the story goes about the racing (if true), they would have only been produced for that Houston race time frame.
I also thought by mid 71 you got the tall spoiler as D80. Could be wrong, but what I remember.
