The SLS as it has become to be known will NOT be part of GM Carlisle this year. They want to make it a bi-yearly event so it looks as if 2014 will be the next one. If you have a Buick turbo car your in luck, since that will be the theme this year!.... The bright side is 2014 is the 45th anniversary of the 1969 model year. I can see a solid 69 hi-performance showroom if I still care to do it..BKH

Brian,

Always a first class display at SLSR. Good for the hobby and great for the spectators. Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with next. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

That is very unfortunate. High quality cars and great people under one roof. SLS was a highlight to my year. Please don't give up on 2014. Keep us posted if you organize any other gatherings. Carlisle is making a big mistake in my opinion.

Well, The SLS was the one thing about that show that guaranteed it to be worth going to see... Sad to say, but this kinda hammers the last nail in the GM Nationals coffin for me. If they are halting the best part of their whole show for 2013 it makes one wonder if there will even BE a 2014 event to organize.

Very good point Joe, more than a few people have said to me it was the high point of the show. We will see.
I know Grady and me will miss coming this year.

Boy. When Carlisle Events parted ways with Rick Markko, I knew things would change but didn't expect them to get quite this bad. I think I remember being told in the Fall by a Carlisle person that the new guy handling our event wasn't a car guy (I may be wrong here). Maybe they decided they need to share the building with the BPO guys? The web site is already listing Buick Turbo cars as the replacement for us, so it sounds like it was a fait accompli when Brian got the call.

Certainly not the kind of thing I want to go see and I was in my late teens/early 20s when that stuff came out. I hope they get a few hundred GNs and Regal Ts for the show's sake given the poor attendance at last year's event.

I might go for the Saturday am swap and some dirty chicken. Might.

First off, Brian didn't get the call, I called Carlisle like I do every January to catch up, and set things up for the SLS. I must say I was blind sided by what I was told. Four years of making the SLS one of the largest gathering of IMO significant cars in the east coast placed in a very comfortable setting of the old time dealership was fantastic. And I want to thank each and everyone who attended with cars, memorabilia, and those who volunteered your time to make the show what it is. The show was like a huge extended family. It is a welcome atmosphere without ropes or boundaries so the cars can be enjoyed up close and personal.

After my conversation with Carlisle, I went to the Carlisle website and I found out that the SLS was not even listed as a feature anymore. The SLS was tossed out without anyone calling me. Thats fine, it's there show and we are just a small part of it. If the SLS is revisited for 2014 maybe I will find out, who knows. Once again thanks for all the support over the years, and for making the SLS what it was..BKH

It sounds just like the situation that gave birth to the MCACN show. Now I guess it's time to make the SLS a stand alone show, or have it as part of MCACN this year. That would be pretty cool: to make one of the display halls into a vintage dealership.

What happened to Rick Markko? I thought he was a pretty good guy and an asset to Carlisle Productions.

I'll admit I was pretty bummed out when I first read about this. I waited to post till I could clearly see the glass as half full. SLS as a stand alone show? Heck yeah! I'm thrilled to see some excitement and enthusiasm. It sure would be easier to just say let's wait till 2014. Cheers to you for not giving up so easily.

Time marches on each day. Certain opportunities are fleeting. When I was talking to BIG at the MCACN this year, some of the old dealership pics were quite inspiring. How about renting the old Yenko lot for a weekend? I really wouldn't care if we got into the dealership or simply hung out in the lot (trailers depending on weather). It seems to me it would be the ONLY way to top what was done at MCACN last year. I am only aware of some of amenity challenges we might face but there are no guarantee's it will ever be able to be done in the future. I think it would be worth some sacrifice.

How about it? Recreating a dealer feel isn't bad but to actually walk THE lot with real cars? Priceless!

I agree with Jeff, parting ways with Rick Markko was a big mistake for Carlisle. If they continue to move in this direction it will be a ghostown. The only reason alot of people went to GM of Carlisle was for the SLS! Carlisle is the big loser!!!

I think MCACN was looking for some new ideas and some new display ideas. Just a shame that there is nothing real close for the east coast guys other than York MCM or the Fredricks Md. show in the Northeast to Washington DC corridor.

Brian - We had a fantastic time bring our Z last year. It really is sad that the show won't be happening at Carlisle this year. Thanks for your efforts and I look forward to hearing the new developments as for future SLS.

Best,
Dave
