Was looking at some of the pics James (firstgenaddict) has posted of his early 69 Z restoration.
https://plus.google.com/photos/112392262...mp;gpsrc=pwrd1# (https://plus.google.com/photos/112392262205377424364/albums/5822411287633222513?banner=pwa&gpsrc=pwrd1#)

First, that car is amazing. I will be glad if mine comes out half that nice. But I digress...

He shows pics of body mount bolts that have two washers by the head of the bolt. One large washer big enough to cover the bushing, and another smaller one. My late Z (08A) only had one washer for each bolt.

1. Do some have only one, while other have two?

2. Am I just missing one?

3. If they did change, when did they change to only one?

The black car 6335xx used only the large washer. All 67-68's used the 2 washer arrangement at the 4 under body positions. The running change for 1969 is VERY early.

These are the pictures Lynn was referencing.

Also here is the difference in the Original VS Repro rad support bolts and the correct set up with the retainer clip holding the busing bolt washer assembly to the rad support.

Pointed Bolt (TOP) is the ORIGINAL - the reproduction is VERY close except for the lack of point, which could be remedied fairly quickly.

Original on the right is Grade 5 whereas the replacement on the left is a Grade 8.

Last one showing the push on spring steel retainer (makes assembly much easier)

Are original 68 subframe bolts worth anything. I have the subframe bolts from another nova which are in real nice shape if I remeber correctly?

Thanks James. I was just too lazy to post them all.

Jason: I believe there is a market for good originals.

Page 41 of the AIM shows only one washer in the main illustration. However, there is a Note in the lower right corner that shows the second washer and referes to it as "spring washer (when used)".

To confuse matters even more there is a note dated 7-15-68 indicating that "xxx4049 washer rmvd" (I can't read the first three digits).

I am guessing that is the spring washer, and, as James stated, would only be on early cars.

I guess I will have to dig out my originals them.

Anyone have a good source for thick washers for the subframe mounts? My originals are a bit pitted, and the pathetic ones that come with the new bushings are a bit thin. I have one washer in my junk pile that would work, but then it is 7/16 inch thick, and I don't need anything that thick. 3/16 or 1/4 would be great.

The washer in pic three here would work:

Thanks Jason. Personally, I think the originals are a bit thin. I would like something just a bit thicker.

These are out of a southern 68 nova. Are you talking about the front thick washer or spacer?

My originals are right at .125" or 1/8" thick.
The replacements I got with the poly bushings are barely thinner at .118".

I also have some from a 70 Nova, and they are just barely thicker than my originals from the 69 Camaro. They too are pitted.

I can live with the difference, but the replacments appear to be simple hardware grade, and they distort too easily.

Would like a good grade 8 washer. 5/8 hole, about 2 and 7/16 outside diameter and close to 3/16 inch thick.

Not sure if you have a machine shop close by. They can always take a solid piece of steel turn it down on a lathe, drill the 5/8 hole, and cut them to the correct thickness for you. Just an idea.

jasonL78,
What are the head markings on your subframe bolts?
