It's a `74 Monte, that is an original owner car getting it's 2nd or 3rd build rendition, and has really got a ton of mods done to it.
Powered by what was a 1000 HP Blown big block, but was detuned to around 750.

Dupont PPG paint, not sure on the brand of clear coat.
Spies-Hecker primer under that, and DP90 under that, and LOT'S (hours and hours)of sanding between coats of primer. Literally made our fingers bleed at least once.

Kind of like the 1 line in the Bryan Adams song.

Things have been progressing slowly, but I should have the rear end done and ready to install by next week.
I had to have a guy at Chassis Service turn the driver side axle tube back into position, as apparently the plug weld broke loose on that side.
We then had them install a new Eaton 4-series posi and a new 4.10 ring and pinion, as well as all new bearings, etc.
Nothing much to see far as pictures go on that.

I also had to straighten and body work the original disc brake backing plates, then Kevin over at Nostalgic gave me a duplication of galvanizing like they looked in `69.
The floor plug is original galvanizing for comparison.

Hi Rick !

I just realized your engine is .070 over and that made me think about a .060 over CE 396 that I have. My CE block has some scratches so I canīt use it as it is. Would .070 over be the absolute maximum size on a 396 block or can it be bored even bigger ? Iīm not sure .070 would be enough on my block, and thatīs why I ask.

Hi Anders,
If you have your block sonic tested, some times they can be bored as much as .125 safely.

Paul Martin gets credit for sharing that a friend of his was selling a rubber mat for a Post Oldsmobile, (I didn't realize it was NOS till later) and I will take credit for asking if an Olds mat is the same as a Chevy.......Yup..... then "MCACN brain" set in and I forgot about it for a full day....... then while chatting with Rick POP I remembered about the mat :-) Whew, I am so glad no-one snatched it up in the mean time.

So now I have heard of two NOS Mats:-)

A bit of progress.
The body is back on the frame.
Forgot to take pics of the chassis with the exhaust and other small pieces installed.
The manifolds shown are not the ones that will be used, but the ones I will be using are still at the powder-coaters.

Had to touch up the frame rail by the steering box, then we put in the new headliner from SMS Autofabrics. Eric again performing his magic.

Had to order all new glass as several scratches were found in the original. Am rebuilding the vent window frames, and getting the old rubber out was a pain as it was rock hard and came out in chunks.

Soon as I get all the glass in, I'll take a few pics.
Eric's coming out Tuesday to do a couple touch-ups, then I can finish all the outer emblems and whatnot.

I was just gonna say Ryan will have a coronary when he hears no B90! Personally, I don't care for it; rather have the painted frames myself. That car has come a looooong way. Congrats on the progress.

Just read thru this entire thread again. A perfect example of a proper restoration that a Chevelle like this deserves.

I will revisit this thread often thru-out the course of my Chevelles restoration.

In the midst of a full-blown basement remodel, and injured my back. Slow recovery sucks.

I will get back after this car asap.

Anybody have a NOS driver's door weatherstrip?
I have one for the passenger side.

I know Steve Koppien through drag racing at either Byron Dragway or Topeka Raceway some years ago, when he was racing a '69 COPO Camaro. It's cool that he raced that car way back then. Cool find! Don.

…

… It is really amazing at the number of guys on this site that take the time and money to restore these cars to this level.

... These guys are real artist in the detail that that they put into these cars

.... and then bring them to a show like MCACN for anyone to view .

… Wow... Just simply amazing work. What a beautiful Chevelle!

… Great job!

I re-read this entire thread last night. Rick, this is an amazing save of a deserving car. Be prepared to have soreness after MCACN because of all the pats on the back. Be proud sir, what an incredible journey for you and this old car. Will Eric be at MCACN? Any more contact made with the widow?
