View Full Version : Another eBay question...

Sold a fairly cheap item on eBay. This kinda sounds like a scam. This buyer won my item on Jan 25. I shipped the item the next day using USPS Priority. On the 30th the buyer was asking me to provide a tracking number because the item wasn't received yet:

"Dear xxx, Hi. I wanted to know if the package has already been sent to my address because I have not provided tracking number. Regards. - yyy"

I mentioned that I had already shipped it and it should be there soon. I did not mention that I had no tracking number(I know, my mistake), which I actually didn't get. Now on Feb 12th I received another message from the buyer:

"I haven't received my item yet, can you give the tracking number."

I notice something strange, the buyer left me positive feedback on Feb 5th. Even though they are claiming they didn't receive the package?? This particular buyer also has 7 transactions? Of course, now he wants his $ back. Sound suspicious???

He left you a positive feedback meening he got the item,
Contact eBay telling them this.

eBay makes it so easy for buyers to scam sellers now, you can buy something and if the seller used regular shipping without no tracking the buyer can easily lie and say they did not get the item, in return they keep there item and also get a full refund from paypal which even includes the shipping fees.
eBay has no protection for sellers and ontop of there 9% fees, 2.9% paypal fee they even get us for a percentage on the shipping fee and they wonder why they are doing more badly then ever <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

Why wouldn't you get a tracking number? Its an extra dollar or whatever it is. PayPal even encourages sellers to put a tracking number on all packages just for this reason. So they sellers don't get scammed!

I mentioned in my post. It was a mistake. The line at the post office was huge when I went to drop it off. I used their automated system. I kinda just assumed it was included. Didn't pay too much attention.. Again, it was my mistake.

USPS Parcel post automatically gets a tracking number now for free.

Yeah, apparently I missed that by just 1 day. It went into effect the day after I shipped.. How bout that?

Honestly your best bet now is to show ebay that he left positive feedback on the sale and see what they say. Good luck.

Darren, the eBay mandate for accepting returns is 45 days. Provide documentation and wait it out?

Darren,

Sorry to hear about the hassle. Unfortunately, I don't think there is much you can do at this point but wait for it to show up. If is was sent by Priority Mail, it should have been there very quickly and is likely a scam. However, lots of people actually write in the form letter style you mention and are real people. Maybe the buyer actually didn't get the part but I seriously doubt it. I have never had anything lost by Priority Mail(knock on wood). All you can do is write to the customer and explain the situation. Do you have the receipt from shipment? If so, take a picture of it and send it to them. Maybe if they are trying to scam you that will scare them off.

Thanks,

Jason

I sent him a photo of my receipt. Get a load of this. This is apparently from the person who works at this post box business where he has all his stuff shipped to. I guess he asked about the package status and this is what he got back.

"This is a message from the company.

Hello xxxxx,

I need to give away a traking number because without it we can not know if what we have. Because this bill does not tell us anything because it just says it was delivered in Miami FL 33172 and in 33172 there is a warehouse complex and could deliver not necessarily ours.

Only by name in the system have nothing need the traking number and that provider is.

thanks"

Seriously???

Pretty sad sellers only can give positive feedbacks and that is it.
Some buyers deserve a Negative but you can not do it no more. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

That sounds like Nigerian scam English. Report it to ebay as a highjacked account and an attempt at extortion. Dont send the "buyer" anything. I have a feeling it is not even your actual buyer that is trying to get the money back.

I would report it to Ebay and just wait and see if he files a claim through Buyer Protection. If he does you may be out the money, but if he doesn't file a claim I wouldn't sweat it. If it were me as the buyer and I didn't have my item yet I would have filed a complaint through ebay buyer protection, so it probably is a scam.
