Ken, you are so negative. Don't you know Chevrolet was so fond of the Nova that the often designed special engines for it? That's right Corvettes, Camaros, Chevelles, Impalas, Trucks, could not use these special engines. These cars were part of the SHAPC (special head and piston combination) program. I suppose the "Super car" community will also turn their head when when the prototype for these special cars turns up. That's right folks you heard it here first, serial no. 0001 the first L89 Corvair recently discovered after sitting undisturbed for over 40 years in a latrine stall of area 51. Why else would the government not want the general public in there? I can't wait for you guys try and explain this piece of GM history away. You should never say never guys, especially you Ken.

Have to admit when I read the above as part of the preview of the thread, and before I saw Ken's link, I THOUGHT we were getting ready to see a post on a 4 cyl. Nova.
I have only seen a couple, but they are out there.

As for the black one... yes, it is beat to death. It is a really nice looking well done car. Anyone here ever get to scrutinize the P.O.P.?

I'm sure glad these cars land softly when they fall out of the sky.........otherwise they could get damaged from the Fall.......And......nobody would like to see a Super Dooper Double Super Secret Car get damaged........

There was a 4cyl Nova on Phoenix craigslist a few weeks ago.

4 cylinder Nova now you are talking about something cool. I have always want to do a 4cyl and put a small turbo on it with a m/20 4sp trans. The only reason for the turbo would be to give it enough HP to pull an AC compressor.

Still won't help you at idle!!!
But, man would you have a lot of room to plumb the thing.

11227 Vin ID for a 4cyl. I've seen a few.Joe had the motor out of a cranberry red 70. Sold it to Technova, a member here, and SNS. Many came with torque drive autos. Semi air cooled, manual shifted, less than powerglide. Yes, lots of room.

No open chambered AL heads on them either.

I had a customer once tell me that after a purchase went bad on a new Challenger T/A 340-6 4spd at Stu's Chrysler/Dodge that he went and bought a new L89 70 Nova but had to settle for an automatic when he preferred the 4spd in the T/A.
Also had a neighbor when we lived in our old house that told me he bought new and ran a 70 L89 Nova in B/MP. I wish I had the video's from Newbie Dragway that Bill Thompson had once loaned me so I could see some of these cars that would of run there.

I chased one down in Moline that was bought new with 842 heads. As soon as it was unloaded off the trailor before delivery, they changed the heads from cast iron, to 842s. So the story was, it was a factory piece. I've ran across two others like that, but no sent from the factory cars. Guess we'll have to wait for that dead bang documentation, and original owner confirmation.

Many people don't realize that Novas (for several years) were available with four different engine family options: 4-cyl, 6-cyl, SBC, BBC. That's pretty unique. Can anybody think of another car that did the same?

Also, those 4-cylinder Novas are actually very hard to find these days because that particular engine was popular in some kind of midget dirt track roundy-round car and the motors were always scooped up quickly out of junkyards.

Hense the term, "urban legend".

Mark, I believe those 4cyls were called iron dukes as they could be bored way out, and were almost indestructable.

I had two Iron Dukes in one of my boats, but yanked them for two small-blocks. They are relatively bullet proof!!!.......Bill S

I am afraid this car, and it’s notation of being “one of one” is not going to go away soon, as, right or wrong, the owner of this car is not really misrepresenting the car, as he did have Legendary and an “expert” or two from our hobby examine the car and the paperwork, who deemed everything as legit. Unfortunately, as been pointed out numerous times when discussing this car, it seems a couple of key items were over looked when the car was first examined.

This has gone on too long.
If the owner is hanging his hat on the "experts" blessings, the "experts" should admit they made a mistake. We all do.
If they already have,I've yet to see it anywhere.

Don't want to get into it again.....But.....The car is B.S...........Legendary was in it just for the money obviously........
