Searching for a buddy of mine. '69 Charger RT/SE 440 Magnum. Was Forest Green with the Orange accent stripe around the tail. Bought used in CA in 1975, sold due to electrical issues in Hatfield (Willow Grove) PA in 1978. Says the buyer was the son of someone working (or owning or something) at the local Dodge dealership who put a new wiring harness in it immediately and off he went. Retired Chief from the Navy looking for his old car. That's about all I got. Any info certainly appreciated. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

He says it originally had a vinyl top, which he removed and painted black "krinkle."

I have seen that car in photos but the only unusual one I have is this.

My friend just sent me this, but I don't know if it's tagged for the red stripe. This one is not an SE.

He's sure it was an RT/SE but that pic matches what he described perfectly.....

The SE would look the same from the outside. The only diffrence is an "SE" emblem on the C pillar instead of the "Charger" emblem. On the inside there was a leather interior and different door and dash panels etc.
In high school, a buddy of mine had a 69 Charger R/T-SE 440 foud-speed. It was B5 blue, black bumblebee stripe and a black leather iterior. Really cool car. The four-speed SEs are very rare in 69 and 70.

I'll ask him what tranny it had. Also, wouldn't it have had the "440 Magnum" badge on the fender? Or was that a deletable option?

He says it was a 4 speed and had the Special Edition badging on C-Pillar. Also had black hood latches, not pins but the ones you turn to lock. No badging at all to identify it as a 440 magnum.

R/T came with a 440 or an optonal hemi.
No R/T SE with a hemi in 1969. (only in 1970).
No emblems for engine size.
Those hood pins must have been an aftermarket addition. Only Daytona Chargers had the hood pins.

If searching existing cars, V8R is the Red tail stripe code.
L31 fender mounted turn signals were part of the SE pkg, does he remember them?
Ask if his had headrests, optional previous to but mandatory after Jan. 01/69.
J45 manual style Hood Pins were available for 69's but seldom seen (not push/turn style).
His didn't have a sunroof?
Best o' luck!

Appreciate it Pete. Will inquire when I see him tomorrow. I can tell you for sure the hood pins WERE push/turn style so they must have been aftermarket.

Correction, it had an auto Torqueflite. Yes on the L31 and headrests. No sunroof. If anyone has, or knows who has the car, he'd be happy to provide any history he has on the car for your records. For example, if you're wondering what happened to the oil pan, or the aftermarket A/C (on the side of Rt. 80 somewhere in Nebraska), Vinyl, tranny coolant lines, etc. PM me.

If it doesn't have the J45 code on the buildsheet, yes. It's a very easy Day-2 installation. I haven't seen a factory installed set on a 69 Charger in my travels. (Which may not mean much). If the broadcast says it is so, then it is so. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

I got the pic from the guy who runs the 1969 Charger Registry last week. I didn't realize the hood pins were such a curiosity but I dug out the email due to your comment. He says:
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Speaking of rare, this RT/SE I have attached pics of has the rare V21 along with the even rarer J45 Hood Pins...original owner Canadian car as well.</div></div>

Very nice! That's gotta be a rare one. Is it back on the road or is that an old archival barn photo?

I don't know but he said it's coded on the tag.
