A friend of mine has some 7.75 x 15 bias ply white walls that came off a '65 Corvette. Trying to determine if these are originals or reproductions. Here are a few photos with a stampings. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks. Phil Woj

Phil,
Do they have a DOT molded in, anywhere on the tire? Any evidence a DOT mold mark has been removed?
US Royal was the fore runner of Uniroyal so, that would be correct for 65. If they are repops, they would have a DOT marking.

Mark,

Nothing ground off. No DOT stampings on the tires.

Thanks Bill,

I didn't think so.

Any idea if these were standard equipment on Corvettes in the 60's?

Phil,

Since I am on my office computer I can't see your pics. All I see is squares with red X's. But to answer your question a 65 Corvette's standard equipment tire was a 775X15 blackwall. Whitewalls were an option as well as goldlines. The whitewall was I believe 5/8ths of an inch wide. Even though I can't see the pics it sounds like you have some original tires because as has been said no one is reproing US Royal tires. If they are in good shape they might be worth a few bucks. That tire would be available on 65 to 67 Corvette's.

----Dave,,,5/8ths stripe would have been 66/67. 65s had a stripe like the tire shown which is almost an inch

Thanks Dave and Bill,

Dave, you should be able to see the photos at home. I'll get a stripe width later today.

Bill,

You are absolutely correct. My mistake. I've had a couple of 66's and 67's, so I am more familiar with them. Just bought a 65 a couple of months ago but it has goldlines. I'll take a look at the pics on my home computer this evening. Have a great evening everyone.

Phil,

As Bill said, the tires look to be 7/8ths wide whitewall. Finally able to see them on my home computer tonight. pisses me off that i can't see these pics on my office computer. How is the tread and side wall? The NCRS folks would be all over these if they are in good shape.

Hey Bill,

I think pretty much is known here. This Place really amazes me as to knowledge that exists. Great place to hang out.

For the '65 only Power Cushion, the white stripe was 31/32".

It may be an original tire or it could be a period replacement. I was trying to get hold of John Kelsey, but he is at the Branson Auto Auction this weekend.

Just measured the whitewalls, width is just under 1".

Sounds like it could really be an original tire. Display use only!!!!
