Need some help here......
What color should the fuel line clips be in the picture below? I have been told light blue, is that correct?
If so, is machinest dye the best process/product to use?
Thanks
I am sure you will get differing answers. All my 3/8 clips with the tabs were a dull silver. I blasted them, painted them with dull cast aluminum 500 degree paint and baked them in the oven. Incredibly durable surface.
The only blues ones I encountered were the 5/16 clips with the locating pin. Those I did the same thing, but used chevy blue engine paint, and again baked them for an hour at 400.
The 5/16 without tabs were black on my car, so.... well you get the idea.

Hello CamaroNos,
Those look to be 3952717 3/8" type 4 tang which were Zinc or natural. Later replaced by 343463 also in natural. I have seen this listed as Blue by AMK.
The blues ones are (3953272 I believe) replaced by 343464 5/16" (1/4 or 5/16 tube od x 17/32 x 1/2) in blue solid marking dye (see below for the current marking dye used). Back in the day it was transparent marking dye. Layout fluid, that I am used to, while transparent is not the right shade of blue.

The 3952718 5/16" pipe with 23/32 hole green were also transparent marking dye it. It was also replaced by 343464 in blue.
Probably more information than you asked for......

HBC shows one part number where these 7 clips are dyed a blue phosphate. Here is the link.

Hello Sal,
Those are from AMK. So not a good source as original. I did have a few misc clips I tried to clean up today. Two 3/16 gold which are 3953272 clips. Some blue 5/16 and a few that I could not see the color. Put them in rust remover and unlike paint (which the remover leaves untouched) it removed the dye. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/mad.gif
There was one 3/3 # 4 which is a mis stamp 3/8 that is distinctly silver (galvanized crystal pastern) looking plating. The lettering is different than the pic above. This one confirms what several GM parts books call the 3/8" clips: Zinc or Natural. Not saying that there was not a 3/8 style that came blue, just going by what I observe.
The 5/16 did come in blue and green. Different spec to the clips.
