Looks like a restamp to me. Fonts on a lot of the characters are wrong. Area all around the stamping looks reworked as well. Hopefully you didn't pay much for it.

There's a lot wrong with this one pictured compared to a real 837 alt I have here in the shop dated the same day. The first problem is the spacing of the date code characters. The other problems are with the 8's 3's and 7's. The D is also different. The feet on the 1's are too short and the list goes on and on. http://www.yenko.net/attachments/usergals/2013/04/full-4674-4341-dsc00892.jpg

The stamping on the alternator looks consistent with the restamps that 'wilma99' was peddling on Ebay.
To add to what Chris said, the 2 zeros really look off on ALLZS alt.
They should be wider.
Here's a restamp from Wilma99 with the incorrect narrower zeros too..

Look at the depth of the last 2 characters (top A & bottom G) on Chris's original, compared to ALLZS.

How does an old alt shop end up with a Wilma core? I remember when some people here looked at my Born with DZ stampings and said they must be fake, 'they look too good...'
[they were real]

Are ALL the alt. built at the same place? Could his be real- just built at a different plant?
Grrrrrr I can't make it show fullsize...
