Do I grease the trailer hitch ball on my wife's truck/horse trailer before use? It is a gooseneck/5th wheel type-B-W Hitch.
Was at the gathering Saturday and some say to grease and others say it is not needed.
Was curious to see what you all doing before I contact the manufacturer. There is no mention of it in the trailer owners manual.
Thanks

Grease it! Metal-to-metal wear and a sloppy fit can actually trigger the knock sensor in the engine block to yank out timing. Ask me how I know this.

I was told once that grease can affect the grounding for your trailer lights. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif
I use lithium grease! My trailer lights work. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

It's been a long time since I've used a trailer, but IIRC, most (if not all) trailer electrical connectors had their own ground wire, which was supposed to be grounded to the frame of the tow vehicle <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

I always used grease. Always makes a mess when you bump it with your leg. lol

Grease it!
Lights should have there own ground. Cumby's lights use coal oil and require a lighter to function!!

For my 5th wheel I bought a teflon plate, I got at a trailer supply. No mess with grease & it it isn't metal on metal. Works great !!
Lithium grease cannot carry a heavy load. Use a Moly based grease. Just my 2 cents.
