No love on the link but is that Lot S159, the black one?
If so I was reading the listing details this morning and couldn't help but notice a couple things.

----Former owner just a rich "car dealer" guy who wanted a "black" collection. I think he found out later that he could make money on the stuff and as quick as he got involved in the hobby jumped back out. Not sorry to see him go as he failed to pay me a promised finders fee once!!!.....Bill S

I couldn't help but notice the similarities also specifically the differences of the description wording when comparing it to the LS6 Coupe Lot ZF196 restored by the same group...original/correct etc.

I just cannot understand why #1) Customers pay good money to have a car restored and then they are not restored correctly and #2) why expert restoration shops skimp on the simplest of items. They must have gotten a truckload deal on the master cylinders as I see them on almost every one of their restorations. For about $300 they could have a perfectly restored #409 master cylinder. JenJac does some beautiful restorations but seem to miss some of the simplest items on the list to make correct and perfect and if this car is real there is NO reason to cut corners.

Why does a car like this have a Hurst shifter in it? At least get the adapter to put a factory handle on it.

"Customers pay good money to have a car restored and then they are not restored correctly"........maybe its correct to what the customer wanted?

I do not understand why guys slap on a 1969 Steering Wheel horn shroud with 69 emblem on a 1970 Chevelle <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/hmmm.gif
Repro dash housings seem to be the norm too on there restos.
If i am buying that caliber and price range of a car i want that stuff on the car <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif There are many other things wrong but i will stop babiling.

Is it known or believed to be a real LS6?
Just like air conditioning,a 3:55 ratio was not possible on an LS6 chevelle.
A 3:31 open or posi or 4:10 posi was.
The 3:55 open or posi was possible on the L78 Chevelle/Elco.
They should really display a better close up photo of the buildsheet,as it might just be a typo on their part.

Always a possibility but then it is a supposed real LS6 convert so why skimp especially on items that cost pennies when compared to the overall cost.

I never in either description read the "number matching" line. You all know more that me on LS6 Chevelles as I haven't had on in about 15 years. But, I know there is some stuff on both cars that aren't technically correct. Maybe it won't matter---Does Mecum have an open bar like Barrett-Jackson?

I don't claim to have the best eyesight in the world or the clearest computer monitor, but it sure looks to me like that buildsheet pictured has listed...
F41 SPC ???? SUSP
G80 POSITRACTION
??? 355 RATIO AXLE
J50 POWER BRAKES
The question marks are characters that I really can't make out. If that is indeed how it reads, it's either the only one in existence or it's a bogus sheet.

Is the 9000 miles supposed to be after the restoration?

There is a lot wrong with that sheet.
Mecum just deleted the ad..
It looked like someone morphed 2 build sheets together.
Certain sections of it looked to be from a 1970 L78 Chevelle, while other areas are showing a later produced 1970 Chevelle.

Either they are developing morals or were crushed under the amount of items that were wrong about this car.
I would venture to bet it is not them developing morals <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

"were crushed under the amount of items that were wrong about this car."
........................why should Mecum or any other auction company care about the amount of items that are wrong with the car ,with the one exception as it relates to the paperwork not being real ??

Probably bad choice of wording - I more meant the paperwork issues than anything else.

I sold an LS-6 to Joey at Jen jacs back in 2007 in fact on his site when you click the restorations tab it's the one on the in progress tab. I delivered car to him. I've seen a lot of restorations but they do some of the nicest work I've ever seen and Joey was very diligent in making sure the build sheet for the car I sold him was real. If there's something off with build sheet I doubt it was his doing
Lot #F196 JenJacs restored Black LS6 Hardtop got 130K.
VIN 136370K150327
Nice looking car,but hardly correct as assembled.
Build sheet shows it came:
With a bench seat, now it has buckets & console.
With idiot lights, now holding a Taiwan tach.
With a bulge hood with an open element air cleaner, now holding a working flapper hood with hood pins & snorkle air cleaner.
With no band aid stripes, now it does.
With no power steering, now it does.
Not to mention the aftermarket master cylinder, cowl grilles, incorrect driverside ex. manifold, silver highlights around the 4 smaller dash circles and missing it's door edge guards, just to name a few.

I would venture 85% of owners that have cars like this restored entrust the shop to install the correct components- sure can get embarrassing when judged. Why don't they? Some shops are more interested in the amount of profit, than reputation..some simply don't know any better. What do you call the guy at the bottom of his graduating class in med school?

The devil,(or difference),is indeed in the details.

Could not have said it better Mark! I saw MANY of these cars that were done just like that with the buyers owing and awing over how perfect some of these cars were. It took every ounce of self control to not open my mouth and go down the list but I restrained myself. If I have said it once, I will say it a hundred times more. You get what you pay for. That black car would have brought considerably more had it been done right. It brought a lot more than it should have! The GB LS6 brought great money considering the color and trans because It WAS restored correctly.

Ask Stowers what I said about this car. When he first asked me if I had seen the Gobi Beige LS6 a couple rows over I said no and don't care to. I have NEVER liked Gobi Beige on a Chevelle. However, later that day I was walking past and decided to take a look. That turned into over an hour inspection and several photos as well as talking to the owner, Ralph who restored the car. After looking that car over I have a new outlook on that color especially on the Chevelle. That car looked great!

I like the 70s "earth-tones" and I know where a real, bona-fide '70 W-30 is in that color scheme. Not that I am looking for another car now (still in back surgery recovery), but if I were, I'd consider it. Rare does not always equal desirable, but with more LS6 Chevelles now than Chevy made, and more '69 Camaro EVERYTHING than was made, more W-30s, etc., a real car with REAL paperwork, no matter what color it is has got to be worth considering. I, personally love the Beiges, Golds, Greens, Browns, etc. and applaud the restorer/owner for not changing it to Black, Red, whatever.

Since I was parked next to Ralph the whole week, we all hung out together, guarding our cars. Ralph is a super nice guy and his car was a real beauty. I wish it brought more $$$ for him.

Ralph was indeed a very nice and humble guy. I truly enjoyed talking to him. I too had hoped he would get more but I think he was happy with the sale. Sorry I missed you Steve as it would have been nice to chat with you again.

ME TOO!!! There's a twin to that car (except it's a 396) a few miles South of me. The owner is giving it some well-deserved attention lately and it's been showing up at some local cruises. Maybe the color combo wasn't hot at the time, but it sure draws a crowd now. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif
So Mr. Bimbi; should I repaint my car? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/naughty.gif
