That has got to be one of my favorite '69 Chevelles of all time.
I love burnished brown and white. Killer.

I just LOVE this car, What happened to it after Joe sold it? I think I was next in line to come look at it when Mike Crown was representing it.

I purchased the Sun tach from the person that removed it from this car, and he worked for South Side Auto. His boss was the guy that ran it through the Mecum Florida auction.
looks like they put a hood tach on it
its on the car in some photos but not in others

This poor car is for sale AGAIN? What a shame after Joe had it from new and kept it all those years! Doesn't anybody like to keep cars anymore?

Hey Astock, it is South Street, not South Side. I know the fellow that had it at Mecum Fla. He bought the car at Grant Miller's Auction with the intention of reselling it at Mecum.

A shame indeed. I sure hope it doesn't end up changing hands as often as the 4K mile Mist green 70 LS6 Chevelle has <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/frown.gif

<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif for the life of me I can not fathom why somebody would remove the orig and put on that hood tach. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif

I hesitated to reply to this thread because Joe was (is) such a good friend before he disapeared into no man's land. But I have 2 comments.
He told me the car originally had the hood tach but it got stolen and he decided not to tempt fate again.
I find it distressing that no one seems to want to KEEP this great car since he sold it. To me, I'd still consider it a "one owner" car, no matter how many different trailers it's been in since he sold it.
God Bless Joe and his lifelong car that he had to sell.

What items were added to the car as part of the Phase 3 package?? Were there internal mods to the motor or was it all bolt on stuff??
Cool car..wilma <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/3gears.gif
Someone would have to ask Joe to confirm it but I believe he said he wanted to keep the factory warranty so he went with the 396 375hp.
I think he had some of the work done after taking the car as he would bring it back to Motion for more mods.
On the Baldwin Auto invoice they show the mods done by Motion as :
raise car at 4 points
1 pair of Prowler rear tires
3 sun gauges
wood wheel
hood tach
headers furnished loose
latter type traction bars
456 positraction
sure shift turbo-Mods
hood locks

Can someone please explain why the reserve wasn't met at $200,000 at Mecum yet is sells on Ebay at $125.000?

The auctioneers can bid the car up to just below the reserve hoping that a real bidder will step up at that point. I would assume the reserve was just over 200k at the auction and they didnt have a live bidder at that point.

The current seller isn't the same person who had it for sale at Mecum FL (thus the price differences), I was told the reserve at Mecum FL was just over 200k and the car sold for around 210k after. The buyer then found a Italian sports car he really wanted and traded it in to the seller on ebay.. that's what I was told. Could be b.s who knows but it has changed hands a few times and Im sure the price was different every time

Different stroke for different folks..But that car is possibly my fav-o-rite car in the world. I wanted it when Joe had it but the stars just weren't in alignment..
Gotta have a bullet-place place to park that sucker..something I just don't have.

Hello guys, the car was purchased at Grant's sale by us and was taken to MD for some re-furbishing before we took it to Mecum some 6 months later. AFTER purchasing the car from Grant's sale the consigner contacted us and told us he had original parts that came off the car such as the Hone-O-Drive overdrive unit original Motion hood tach extra L88 hood original ignition box and another 3 ring binder of documentation and more. In short I paid $10k extra for everything. We put the Hone-O-Drive back in the car and the hood tach and had the car wet-sanded and buffed and underside detailed. The car was stunning when finished. We still have original parts to this car and a whole binder of docs. Mecum would not disclose the buyers info as it was purchased after it went across the block. We closed the bidding at $200k and ended up striking a deal at $225k after the fact. Wish we had known it was on ebay because it would be back in my garage at $125k what a steal. And to whoever has it now if you are interested in the original parts and a 3 ring binder of more docs for this car please let me know. All we were told is it was being shipped up north from the auction and as I said they would not disclose the buyers info.

Wow I can't believe they charged you for docs on a car you bought from them that's low IMO!! What do the extra docs consist of? I thought the car had out standing documentation already with it. I could see holding back exta parts for cash but documents?? Thats pretty bad considering they aren't worth anything to any other car.

Hey Robbie, you would have been fighting ME for that car had I known it sold for a buck and a quarter. That was an early Christmas present. Haven't seen you around for a while, but I've been out for back surgery. You guys did a great job with that Chevelle and I wish I would have been able to see the before and after. Oh well...........See ya around, Dave.

Hello Dave, $125k is a steal on the car for sure but I thought you were an Olds guy lol. When you gonna let me bang some gears in your stocker ? Love your car by the way...a true piece of history. See you soon

Didn't this car have an SS hood on it originally, not a stinger hood which I think was added later?
rob468
06-24-2013, 04:48 PM
The Stinger Hood was part of the Phase 3 package. This car was 1 of 2 69 Chevelle Phase 3 cars built the other got an L88 427 and a L88 style fiberglass hood. And yes when it was sold at Baldwin new it would of had a stock SS hood which was replaced when the car was sent to Motion for the Phase 3 package. This is the only numbers matching Phase 3 69 Chevelle out there. Joe's wife apparently did not want him to void the 5/50 warranty so the 396/375 was upgraded to L88 type specs but still retained it's numbers matching born with motor.
