Most of the cowl tags were 118 as they didn't know what was going into the car as in engine size. Many 6 cylinder 66/67 Nova had the 118 cowl but were 6 cylinders. The Vin over rides the cowl tag. The 117 is an SS car but is a 6 cylinder SS. All even vins were V-8 and odds were 6's

Hope this helps some.

Nah....allot of them are like that. The Vin.is what you need to look at. The cowl tag was there before the Vin as it was from Fisher body. The 2L is for the 4-speed.

What everyone else said. My '65 Nova hardtop has a V8 trim tag, but it was originally a 230 I6. It has a 6 cyl VIN. I know the whole history of the car, so I know it was never altered.

Your Trim and Vin tags match because your cars must be V-8's...if your car was a 117 vin then it would be a 6 cylinder SS.

Yes both are v8 cars.
