I just got a #3969854 4 bolt block from a guy. His boss owed him money, and had a '68 Camaro drag car he raced in the '70's to mid '80's (rusty), and had been parked for years. He was carrying it to crush, and got the complete engine out of the car for what was owed to him. When he tore it down, it has a 4.155 bore, it had 1 '68 dated #840 head, 1 '69 dated # 291 head, a 6223 crank(ground 25/25), a set of dimple rods, and huge domed pistons with floating pins. He said it had a solid roller cam, rev kit, Gold roller rockers, and the whole roller set up. He said it also had an old Edelbrock Torker (sideways) intake, and a Holley 850 double pumper. He had sold all the parts except the block and crank before I got there.

The block though has no codes or VIN on the pad, or by the oil filter. There are still broach marks under the remnants of the head gaskets, and across the pad. The casting date is I 15 9, and down by the starter there is T 0 9 9 stamped, and some letters. I am thinking maybe a CE short block and the one head replaced under warranty(for some car, maybe not this Camaro?)Any thoughts, or ideas? How much is the block worth? I have had a couple of warranty/service blocks, and none of them have had a CE code stamped on them. They all had dates down by the starter though, just like this one. Just curious. Thanks for the info. Doug

CE is a warranty replacement block as you suggested. T099 indicates Tonawonda assembly plant with a build date of Sep 1969. I have seen 402 CE 4-bolt blocks sell anywhere from $500 to $2000 depending on dates and bore. Good luck!
