Out of curiousity who takes their Supercar to local car shows, how often do you and what sort of an experience is it for you?
I've taken my COPO(supercar? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif) to a couple...most are clueless.

As you know in the summer months there is a Cruise Night 7 days a week in the Chicago area....since the recession and have not seen too many Super Cars out....but this Summer I have seen many Super Cars....Perhaps car guys are tired of keeping them "Put Away". Whether I am with my car or a clients car.....I always get nervous with the "Baby Strollers", Moms and kids. Al is correct, people are clueless.....especially with the value if these cars.

I have a copy of the Window Sticker stuck on each cars window and a copy of the Build/Broadcast sheet on top of each dash and it really sets my car apart from the rest.
Most times I do not get asked any questions as the documents speaks for itself. One thing I can't stand is when people say "NICE CUDA or NICE CHARGER"
in my head I am saying "IT IS A CHALLENGER YOU MORON, READ THE EMBLEMS" <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif
For the most part everyone knows what the Chevelle is!
I have a great time at Cruises and only go to about 3 of them in one week. Used to go to those Mall cruises but I stay away from those as they attract all the nim rods with baby strollers, bicycles and kids that like to hang off the side off your door while the parents just stand there and say nothing. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif
Just like in the Chicago area, Toronto in the summer has a few every night of the week <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif

Yes Dan you are correct, i've been to about (6) total so far but i always enjoy Lombard at the Harris Bank canopy between the Chevelle guy's and the Camaro guy's thoes are some great memories.

At the Barrington Car show we attended I had to keep a real close eye on this lady so she wouldn't devalue any Chevy's, the Ford guys didn't do a very good job of keeping her away from this Shelby..:-)

PS: There were some strollers an jacket zippers flying around at that show.....Yikes.

These ladies looked like they were going to lean back on this ole Buick but there was close monitoring of this bad boy.

What's up with the Jeep parked next to you.
Maybe he is going to give you a door ding. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif
Those ladies have some nasty purse buckles hanging there.
That's a hot looking momma looking at your Shelby <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/biggthumpup.gif
Here is a photo of my car at my favourite cruise right in my home town of Bolton Ontario at the "Canadian Tires" parking lot every Thursday night.

You guys hit on a "soap box topic" of mine with these local car cruise nights. Your right, there are so many clueless people that have absolutely no idea what they are looking at or even know what the values are of these cars. My Nova has a reproduction dealer window sticker in it and seems to attract almost every spectator and their brother. There is usually two individuals looking at the sticker and the one will start explaining to the other the details of the sticker. They start pointing at stuff putting fingerprints all over the glass, then I love when you get the question from them with this stupid $hitty grin on their face and ask "is this your car?" Then here it comes... " I'll give you the exact dollar amount for the car that the window sticker says it's worth" HA HA.. Talk about ignorant.. They think they are being funny... I wish I had just a nickel for every time I heard that stupid comment.. They also think the window sticker is original.. It's like Yeah, Ok the paper held up that well over the last 43 years!!
The other thing I love is when you get the know it all examining your car telling you this could not be a real SS car because "they NEVER put bench seats and column shift automatics on SS cars." One evening Big Steve (68l30) and myself were at a car cruise and this dummy told Big that there was "NO WAY" that GM or Chevrolet would have mounted an 8 track player on top of the center counsel which is on Big's 68 Camaro. Big just stated "you got me, you found it I did take that out of a Ford Mustang and mounted it there!" I about died laughing... Then some other idiot asked he and I if one of us was Roger and the other Dean because Big's car came from Roger Dean Chevy and has a dealer badge on it from same... The sad thing is these people were serious!! <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/haha.gif <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif
Then there is just the touchy feely and get too close people with the baby strollers or dogs and dog leashes.. I was at a show recently when this knucklehead wrapped his dog's leash around the bumper guard of my friend's old Chevy. You have to constantly remind them about same... Every once in a while there is a breath of fresh air and you get someone who is a true car enthusiast and knows what the cars are and what they are looking at.. I really enjoy talking to those folks of course because you can have an intelligent conversation with them without being asked such ignorant questions.
Below are some of my most favorite ignorant questions or comments:
-"if you were to sell this car now how much would you sell it for, what is it worth"
-"Oh man you should take this thing to Barrett Jackson"
-"How fast is this thing"
-"My brother's uncle's friend had one of these only it was blue and I think was a four door, didn't they make these in four doors"
- "Do you drive this everyday"
- "Did you buy it new" (Maybe I look that old I don't know)
I could go on and on.... To me this is cheap entertainment, I just sick back and laugh... It seems more of this goes on at local evening cruise inns or when there is a local car show on a Saturday or Sunday in a store parking lot. When you have larger, specific shows is when you usually have just "car people" there with their cars or true enthusiasts in attendance....
My rule of thumb is that unfortunately you have to stay and babysit your car at some of these cruise inns and shows because of this behavior unless you like fingerprints or scratches... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/scholar.gif

Yes people are clueless..even at the large auctions. My 8k mile original paint LS6 was at the Mecum St. Charles auction inside on display a few years ago. We walked in to find 2 guys almost sitting on the quarter panel and the third using the roof to hold himself vertical. Its frustrating to have to babysit your car at some car events.

You said it Rich!!Some cruisers are just as bad also.Last Friday i went to a cruise and turned away for a few minutes, some old fart is backing into a space next to me with a big 59 El Camino, almost hits my 69(Z) with 1 to 2 inches to spare.By the time i saw it he was moving forward to straighten out.Way to close for comfort. If you can't back up you shouldn't be driving!!!!

One show I went to was in a not so great area and there was this young lad that felt since his bike didn't have a kickstand that my Quarter panel made a GREAT place to lean his prize two wheeler there. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/thumbsdown.gif His dad was sitting next to my car on the curb and never said a word to him! So...I had to be the "bad guy" and remove the bike my self inform the lad that this don't work for me! Then ya get the eyes rolling from the dad that your an A-hole and they shuffle off. Yup...sometimes ya need to just sit put and watch the carnival walk by.

We have a number of local cruise nites in our area...most of the folks are pretty good. But,every once in awhile you get some nimrod with his brain dead wife and three screaming kids...two of them in the stroller <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/rolleyes.gif and they can't wait to lean, touch and manhandle your ride. Wilma is not a good boy when that happens <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

My friend was just at a local show with his nice 69 Chevelle parked with the windows down. Some guy had the nerve to walk up open the passenger side door look inside then slam it! Jeff turned around and was what the hell was that as he saw the guy walk away to the next car open the door and slam it. Jeff was like are you kidding me.... now I can't turn my back on my car. My experience is most people have no idea what they are walking around or looking at. Always be aware of your surroundings.

After reading Jason's comments I feel compelled to mention another car show "pet peeve"...I have no patience for the folks who run around at each car show and handout flyers for 9 other car shows...they think it is alright to reach in through the window and leave their propaganda on your dash, seat or under the wiper blade.
This is the most rude and inconsiderate behavior in my opinion..only thing worse is when they assign the job to their 10 year old kids..then I really get going <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/thumbsdown.gif

Sometimes you just need to pull yourself out of the equation. A friday night, after a long week, after fighting traffic to get there in 90 deg heat, and then some kooks pushing your buttons .... No thanks.
After awhile you know where to go and how to spot "the guy" or "the family" thats going to make you twitch. I still think that the one true enthusiast that " gets it" makes up for all the kooks.
I like when they ask what kind of Camaro this is.... Not a Supercar, not a Musclecar, not a Z-28, SS or even a RS ..... Just a plain old Camaro ,and they made thousands of them. It is what it is.....fun!
I've meet some of my best friends at cruise in's .....You never know who the next kooks going to turn out to be.

You guys hit those other points I forgot about, those annoying fliers for other shows that end up on your seats and floor and kids that run around like wild animals around your car and the ignorant parents that say nothing to them...
I know some guys that leave their windows up just so those stupid fliers aren't put inside their cars..
Rich
I can't stand those paper peddlers.
LOL for some of the nice motorcycles I see at cruises.
The "paper brigade" roll up their car show flyers and insert them in their handlebars or anywhere else on the frame that will fit, when the owners aren't present.
The owners come walking up to their bikes to see a dozen 12" long paper tubes inserted into their rides like their decorating to go into a parade.

While individual action is certainly part of the problem...the folks who organize or run the events are equally responsible. Every person entering a show should be made aware of the "rules of engagement"...now I realize that for some local "parking lot" cruises this may not be practical, but for any sanctioned event, especially those with a centralized entry point there is no excuse. If a club or charitable organization is collecting entrance fees then they have an obligation to the participants to try and protect the cars from damage. I understand it may not be possible to prevent all of this kind of activity...but there is no excuse for not trying <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/scholar.gif

I agree with all you guys and your comments but this is basically what car shows are about. Kids in strollers, people asking dumb questions although not dumb to them and flyer handouts. Just got to be careful and pick and choose the shows that are better suited. If the scenerio was not like this, there would be no more shows. Also, what determines a SuperCar? For Chevy what comes to mind "quick" for me is a 69 ZL-1 camaro or an L88 corvette.

I take my car to as many shows that I can fit in. I usually get one person comment on my Chevelle on either how they have never seen a SS Post car or they ask me if I know how rare it is.
Luckily my car isn't that nice so when the little kids come up and put their hands on it....it's not as big of a deal. I did have a gentleman leaning against the car but just as I told my friend that I was going to ask him not to.....he realized what he was doing and quickly moved.

I disagree, YOUR CHEVELLE IS NICE!!!!!! In fact when I owned it, it was THE BEST CRUISE CAR of them all. When I owned my shop I was at every cruise night, 7 days a week. I drove my cars and clients cars.....I always had the most fun with The Post Sedan. That Chevelle has ALL the character and people seem to be drawn in by her mystic.

Sammy since you are new to the site I'll take it easy on you...this site being called the Supercar Registry, the term Supercar used in this instance are for Supercars as defined by the site mission statement..."Dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the Chevrolet dealer built Supercars and COPO cars"... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/grin.gif

Fred, this is the reason I call my car a beater. You might remember the info page I put on the car when I show it, that states "...it's INCORRECT, INCOMPLETE AND UNREPENTANT".
Maybe I've been lucky to avoid some of the folks that have been used as examples here, and after 18 years of showing my my car, and having dings put in my car by other cruisers, bird poop and tree sap, etc. I've learned not to get as bent out of shape.
Columbus isn't quite like Chicagoland for the sheer number of shows, but without those flyers I wouldn't know what shows were going on out there. Most of that paper gets put into the recycle bin when I get home. I love nothing more than putting a kid behind the wheel of my car so mom or dad can take their picture. The smiles I get from the kids are priceless.

At PSMCDR a great car guy asked my son to sit behind the wheel of his AMX and we took pictures, a real highlight. Rick handed out chips, water, pop, all inexpensive items but the thoughtfulness is priceless.

I still enjoy the parking lot car shows, went to one yesterday. There are silly questions and sometimes kids put their hands on the cars, but it's still fun and people really enjoy the cars. I drive everything I own to the car shows and let folks look at them. People are pretty much respectful of the cars. I always get the window sticker comments, but what the heck. I tell them there's a slight mark-up over sticker price.

I heard a good one and was actually from a seller of a truck we saw in a parking lot. Chevy that sold new in Oklahoma at Ramsey. Had the dealer emblem on it. The owner comes over and says this is the rare Ramsey, its like the Cheyenne. He was clueless why it said Ramsey Biloxi Oklahoma.
Its amazing what happens at auctions too. I saw a nice Porsche that had the front bumper bashed in by another car and a friend saw a guy in a golf cart or some kind of disability scooter , hit a super bird I believe at Dallas. Both mecum.

I've read some of these stories but I think I have everyone beat with car show/cruise in jackals because of owning this...

I have turned my back for less than 2 minutes on it and found people opening the doors, sitting in it, leaning on it taking pictures, wanting to climb through the window (including people that in no way, shape, or form could EVER fit through it), slide across the hood.
I really don't have any issue with people taking pics with it. I will let people sit in it for a pic too as long as they ASK first. I get highly annoyed when others show no consideration or respect of something that isn't theirs.
The one time I took it to Ocean City, MD for the spring cruise, I walk back and see 2 girls bending over the fenders leaning on the hood with their arms taking pics. I have more or less stopped taking this car to shows/cruises since last year unless someone asks me to bring it out for a special display.
