so a guy out by me west of Boston just bought a 69 Firebird 350 from Volo, convertible I think. Paid all the money for it and when it got here it was obvious that is needed another 3-4k to make it slightly better than respectable. Looked like the engine compartment had been spray bombed.....He was ok with it but not thriled, caveat emptor right.....just seems like it is getting increasingly harder to buy anything on line unless you have a direct referral from someone or have great references....so many different perceptions of "mint", "clean", "excellent condition". just curious what the level of experience is with Volo.
Thanks!

Correct me if I am wrong, but no where does it state that it is an original "born as" L78 or even SS car?
No pics of any stamps or even the ttag that I see.

There are a few engine detail items to be addressed. Hard to tell from the pictures, but I couldn't make out the rear control arm braces.
As is the case with all these Post cars it always seems to come down to the interior. Aftermarket flooring. No radio which is cool.
I looked long and hard at the location of the vent window cranks. They go right into the upper door panel molding which is not the case with my car (my panels redone by SMS in 2006). Numerous pictures I have on file of other Post cars are the same as mine. Wonder if the molding is too low or wrong door or?????
Also, what colour of Blue is that? Maybe it's Lemans and the pictures make it seem different.

This just makes me shake my head. I have a REAL 69, L78, nice car listed here in the classifieds for sale. I can't believe the guys that have called and said the car is worth no where what I'm asking. How about some of those same chumps call this dealer and tell him that! Or send him some emails saying "I'll give you half of what you want". I hate most people.
I looked at this car when it was here in Michigan a few years back. I questioned the seller at that time about it being real. He would'nt address any of the things that I brought up to him. The car was at the Frankenmuth Auto-Fest, with a for-sale sign on it when I saw it.

I, too have seen the car listed for sale elsewhere and discussed on several forums. About ten years ago, I had a car that I got from the guy that got it from Volo. At that time, they (Volo) were big on the "museum" approach to their selling technique. The car I had wasn't bad and I paid cheap money for it to settle a divorce. Also, maybe 15 years ago, I was at the Atlantic City auction watching a buyer (who I was told bought for Volo) that had made several too many trips to the "open bar" for the bidders. I can only vouch for what I was told (it did come from a fairly reliable source), but the guy was bidding with reckless abandon, and the cars that he bid on and the prices he paid, reflected it.

Tony,
You are 100% correct, the person you are referring too (from Michigan) is indeed the person that built this Clone SS396 Post Sedan....He was always at the Frankenmuth Auto-Fest.
"He would'nt address any of the things that I brought up to him."
I am NOT SURPRISED ONE BIT <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

I was steppin up and paying good money under the pretense that it was a real car. I would of been PISSED if I found out it wasn't and the seller KNEW IT !!!!
Sure is PRETTY though..... <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/drool.gif And the money is coming down a little closer to restored clone money. Was in the $60's then $50's

Thx Dan , I knew if anyone knew the car , you would be in that group! This is just like TDW said..." I just shake my head"... Can anyone sell a car without lying,....or maybe I should say misleading people,....almost like these guys are only looking for the quick flip,...move on,...find the next sucker,.....
Sickens me when I think of all the good car guys I've met over the years......

Today I was at a car show in Delavan, WI. A couple of guys came up to me and we started discussing my car with me as they knew that it was rare. They asked me if there was a way to tell if a '69 was a real SS car or not by the trim tag or VIN.
Long story short they were asking for their friend who currently has the car being discussed here on this thread. I told them the whole story about it and they seemed a little surprised. I also said that I meant no disrespect to them or the owner but I knew what I was talking about beacuse of Dan's knowledge on the car and him getting the truth out.
It's a shame because it's a beautiful car and worth some good money but NOT what they are asking.....especially for clone. IMO

The problem is the person pays real car money and finds out it is a clone. And has to sell it as real to get there money back. It will continue like a house of cards, no one wants to lose there money to be honest. But at some point someone will lose 15-20K on this car.
That's a disgrace posting a CLONE and NOT disclosing it in your ad! The worst part for that owner is that it's being talked about right here and there's nothing he can do about it! It appears to be a nice looking car but why this guy won't tell the truth about it's history is beyond me. I guess he just sees dollar signs? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/thumbsdown.gif
