You're showing the wrong buildsheet @ the 1:53 mark.
That's for another differently optioned LS-6.....and with a vinyl top to boot.

I just let him know. They grabbed the placard from another LS6. Maybe a red car.

I dunno? I think if it was mine, I'd have to drive it. That's what it was built for. Not much, just enough to let folks know why it has the reputation it does....

definitely would have to drive it, just a car. what about the "chevelle" emblem missing and the SS emblem appears to be upside down on the grill? were the stripes added as an option? Jim

I noted that, BUT after taking my car to to the Norwood Assembly Plant Reunion a couple of weeks ago and listening to and being able to ask the workers any question about the production of Norwood cars, you wouldn't believe how cars left the plants. Except for a few folks on this forum that are real sharp shooters when it comes to restorations, many are clueless and not the experts they claim to be.
I especially liked one worker who stated a Camaro from Fisher Body came down from the drop from above to meet its chassis. The body had no hole in the drive shaft tunnel to meet its 4 speed transmission chassis! Then he said<span style="font-style: italic"> "that's where a big-ass chisel and hammer came into play. Problem solved....."</span>

I can confirm we built at least one pickup truck like that....the truck went tottering down the final line while the repair man was hammering away inside.

you're right Ryan, she probably would like a good run, stretch her legs alittle. But truth be told, that car will never really be enjoyed for what it was built for. it will get more miles put on it from bouncing from collector to collector, 35 miles and half 1/2 dozen or more owners. its all about the $$$$$$$ now. That's a shame for something like that to just sit. That's like buying a nice Harley and parking it your garage and then standing by it so people can see you have it. What does letting it sit get ya? More money? Heck, who needs more money. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif
I like the car. There's a guy riding around here in the Dover area that has the same car but with the 396, faded original red paint and all, no rust, 4 speed. Knew him from my USAF days in the 70's. He bought it new and was still driving it up to a few years ago.
There is also a hot blonde chick from Maryland that would bring an LS5 or 6 to a friend of mines speed shop for tuning twice a year. Nice car.

one thing for sure, you can't take the car or the money with ya, might as well have some fun with it. i will guarantee if i had it, it wouldn't have 34.2 miles on it for long, I'd drive the you know what out of it. its like having a wife or girl friend with low miles and just looking at her, were is the fun in that. to each his own, there loss. I think I agree with Charley on this one. When driving, too many BAD things can possibly happen to a GOOD car. Once it is hit or is involved in anything negative, it is no longer what it is now. The Brothers have amassed one of the best collections in the world concerning our kind of cars. I applaud them for doing so and for preserving history.
And...finally, the truth about build quality is coming to the surface. Many of us who are/were in the car business know the real truth---not the "Johnny come latelies" who THINK they do!

I agree, this is a very rare piece, not because of what it is, but because of the mileage. car should be and needs to be preserved, but you can still enjoy it. What can you learn from a car? Not a darn thing, other then Why Bob put a hose clamp on differently then Jack, and why it was done that way? one is installed at the 1:00 position the other car was at 9:00. Thats a mystery? Wow guys look at that, this paint dab on the tie rod end looks like it was put on by going east to west, not north to south like the last car. wonder why they did it that way, thats really strange. so i must of did mine wrong? I don't think because it is a LS6 or a W-30 they built it better or with special care compared to a 6cyl. valiant? We all know that it was just a piece of transportation built by humans, people like us. not really a science, (but you can't help from wondering why and how some things were done). I look back to this day and wonder why i did something like i did just a year ago, let alone 30 years ago. It was just another day at work to them. Always going to be variables from car to car, and it is cool to see those variables. You don't have to drive your cars either for bad things to happen to them either, fire, weather, list goes on. My hat goes off to those who just look at them for enjoyment (for whatever reason), or for the money, or because it has 34.2 or 102,000 miles, its just not in my blood. I will enjoy a piece of history from the driver seat, where I think it really matters. Beautiful car, Jim

Some day, somebody will drive that car. It may be in a collection now, but when we're all dead and gone, who knows. Some crazy, uneducated, that just won the powerball just might have his/her way with it. There's a few guys about a mile from where I live that won a Pa. lottery 10 15 years ago and I see them all the time thrashing nice looking muscle cars up and down the road all the time. Worse yet, somebody that has no idea how to handle big block power can run it into a ditch before it went 6 feet.

I looked over and under this car for an hour when it was at Mecum Chicago, it's amazing and I love it the way it is.
Tim was that in 2007?
I inspected it in 2007 @ Mecums' Spring outdoor auction in Belvedere Il. @ Boone Co. fairgrounds.
Everyone walking buy it,not realizing what it was.
Under a make shift tent, but still wet grass,raining/tornado like weather that day too.
I know it was in St. Charles, it may have been October 2008.

slimsls6
08-06-2013, 01:21 AM
well there is a slight difference between enjoying, respecting V/S trashing or running something into the ground. some folks think just be cause you have a high performance car you have to dog it to death or beat on it all the time, thats why, as all you know, a lot of these cars didn't survive back in the day. took them past there limits. i'm more then happy just to cruise. You ever gone to a cruise nite or be at a stop light and some moron yells at ya to light-em up or lets see what it will do?, those to me are the ones that don't know how to respect anything, they are the ones that will trash or run them into the ground. I bought a (cover your ears) mustang 5.0 in 89 new with a 5-speed. sold it with well over 100,000 miles on it, still had the original clutch, original plug wires, went thru 3 sets of 4, tires and 1 set of brakes. only thing i did to that car was changed gears to a 3:55, hurst shifter & SVO exhaust. I had alot of fun with that car, but i respected/enjoyed it. Jim

If everyone drove theirs then there wouldn't be one's like this to piss off those who think it should be decades later. The collective discipline of the current and former owners to keep the miles as low as possible is commendable. It also makes it more valuable as mentioned the woods are full of em. They made 4475 LS6-equipped vehicles. The answer is go buy another one if you want one to drive. Not like they are hard to find. You wouldn't sit down with a mint condition, first edition of a Hemingway novel worth tens of thousands of dollars eating a peanut butter sandwich and drinking coffee. Your local bookstore has a dozen copies of the less valuable, readable version on its shelves for that purpose.

There's an editorial in the new Hemmings Muscle Machines about the guys who trash other people's cars under the auspices of being "all-knowing" as to how a car should be. (I believe the Internet has made this problem worse.) So yes, let's leave the few rarities such as this car alone so that there will continue to be a reference point for future restorers and enthusiasts.

----Thanks for the back-up, Bill. I was the second owner of that LS6 and have always thought that Rick (the original owner) ordered it just about right for late night "excursions". It was a bad boy in its day, and definetly not stock (only stock looking). Back then I took it as far as I needed to to sell it as I had a partner (my boss!) that wanted to sell and I didnt have the moola to buy him out. Would have liked to keep it. Subsequent owners have had thier time with it and thakfully have stepped up to the plate and restored it nicely. I really didnt do the car any favors back then, but liked it immensly.......Bill S
Wow, lots of thoughts on this car! Personally, I'm in the "Don't drive it" category. After seeing this car in person, I believe it's evolved beyond a car.. it's more of a historical relic that could never be "un-driven." As many pointed out, there are thousands of other LS6 cars to drive. But it does kinda suck for this one to be the car who had to watch life from the sidelines. Super cool, none the less. I'm just glad I had the chance to spend some time with it!
