Would anyone know what the correct throttle rod looks like on a '69 Camaro SS350 4sp. car w/Rochester carb? Looking for original close-ups pics if anyone has them. Also need the overall length. Bought one from HBC years ago but don't know how accurate their version is. Needless to say it really didn't work on my car. I've since been using the wrong one. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
SAL

Anyone out there have any current pictures of what an original throttle rod for a '69 Camaro SS350 with a 4 speed? <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/no.gif

Sal, I am subscribing to this too, to get the answer. I have a couple rods and am using my longer rod for the SS350/300 qjet motor from my VN 69. It is just a straight rod around 10" long with fine threads on one end and a 90 deg bend on the other with a hole for a cotter pin or clip.

Sounds like our cars are close cousins, mine is a VN strike car built in june with April HA block, May muncie and April BS rear. Im close by you in central NJ.

That sounds great Kevin. If you could take a photo of it an post it so I can compare it to the ones that some of these Camaro outlets sell. They all say their throttle rod is correct. I'd like to know which one is the right one. Thanks for the help.

Sure, but I am not sure if it is totally correct. I used to part out 1st gen camaros in the 80s and saved a lot of parts. So I am certain the ones I have are from 69 Camaros, just not sure of the application.

Sal - I have no reason not to believe the rod on my 69 L48 is not original but all I can say it was on her when I bought her in the early 80's.

For some odd reason the picture links here are being truncated.

Lets try that again - name change and lower resolution

Here is my throttle rod. Similar to 69Pace, but mine has more threads. I put mine on the inside of the carb linkage plate as it seemed to work better there. It was binding on the outside. The TV cable and anti deiseling soleniod mount are my design, not factory (but work really well!) <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif

I see that you have an automatic setup which is fine. The one that 69PACE has looks to be for a manual trans. Thanks for your help guys and I'll look into it more.

The engine/carb is a manual trans HA engine (correct numbers, block, heads, intake, carbs and dated) from my SS350 and that is the linkage that I will be using. The engine is temporarily in my other car (327/auto) while the original 327 is getting rebuilt. Once I get the SS restored, the correct engine will get back to where it belongs <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif The 327 2bbl linkage looks the same as that except the rod is a little shorter due to the placement of the 2bbl is back a little bit from the Qjet.

Here is a pic of my SS350 engine compartment from 75. It may be a bit hard to tell in this pic but I can remember the rod was straight like what is in Kevin's pic. When I removed the Q-jet for the Holley I never changed the rod. Seems to me I have one of those laying around somewhere in my loose parts.

Sal, check the assembly manual.

I took a look at the AIM. While there are not very detailed pics, page L48-A3 include a pic that has the rod inserted in the the carb from the fender side. Page L65-A4 also shows the rod going in from the fender side. Rod looks to have a slight bend towards the carb. Page 6-D3 shows a 2bbl rod with a slight bend and mounted from the fender side. View B shows the rubber, plastic coller and cotter pin attachment to the pedel arm. View A on the page shows a C-clip to attach swivel to carb plate. I do not see any different rod used for a manual vs and automatic.

So the big question is, is the rod straight? or slightly bent? (I will have to fix the orientation of my throttle rod :))

Well mine is a L48 4 speed manual trans. I don't know how much longer the threads were on mine, but I have not done anything to it but disconnect and reconnect after carb swaps or rebuilds.

While I can say it is not hard angle bent I can say it has a very slight natural bow to it closer to the linkage of the pedal assembly then to the carb linkage.

Yes, I've tried using the AIM before posting but with no luck. Any chance 69PACE could give me an overall length on that throttle rod you have. I can then compare it to some that I've seen.

Thanks,

Yeah when I get home from work I'll grab the tape measure and see what I have and post it for you.
