I am ready to do some painting on my car and would like suggestions on paint types and more important, Anyone have a mix conversion code to take to the paint shop? I am going to paint a basecoat clearcoat..i used sherwin williams in the past mostly.

I am old school and it's been a while since I did any painting. I still paint with the old develviss gun of mine... no hvlp... so any suggestions on paint type, etc. would be appreciated.

thanks in advance ...max

Is it the same color as 1969 Dover White? If so, I probably have a PPG paint code.

No Ermine is much brighter or Bluer white than the Dover which was more cream colored.

Phil, do you have a PPG code for that Ermine white? Did you shoot DAU82 clear?

apparently that paint code is no longer available in deltron?? is that true? my buddy owns a body shop and he said he called the supplier... he said i could get a 'cheaper' PPG product BC and use the better clearcoat?? dont like the sound of that...

any suggestions??

I know the DAU82 clear has not been available since ~2001'ish. The current clear coats from PPG are still very good, but the DAU82 was excellent. IMHO, I would decide on a particular brand (PPG, Dupont, SW, etc...) and then stick to a particular product line from that brand; PPG has something like 4 product lines: Omni, Shop Line, Deltron, & Global (cheapest to most expensive). I'm a hobby painter as well, so it can be difficult to know what brands (and product lines within brands) are compatible. Whatever you choose, make sure you read the tech sheets thoroughly - I study every one, before I paint!

I just called the jobber who mixes my paint. He calls PPG at the lab for formulas that are no longer listed... He says he can get it. PM me and I will get his contact info to you so you can pass the info along to your guy. <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/beers.gif

I have been going through this on the 73 Z which is light copper metallic.
We(Finish Masters - local Jobber) ended up calling Dupont they scanned a large spray out card they had on file then sent the closest formula match they could generate in Chromabase, from there we are tinting.
