I was searching through my old files over the weekend & ran across the pictures below. It is a car that I owned in the early 90s. It was a race car from Michigan - some of you may recognize it. I know that many will say - you should have left it "as found"!

Also, it's a Berger car with POP. I did add the Berger stripes later.

The 90's were a different time and doubt if too many people would have restored a car like that back as a race car or left it unrestored. Today things are very different. It looks great now for sure.

It reminds me of the one owner gold Berger Copo that had the crazy multi color paint job. I wish I still had pics of that car. Does anyone have pics of that car before it was restored to red and then the original gold?

I'm all for preserving a car's history, but even I think you made the right choice. Looks GREAT!

What do the Berger stripes look like?

Thank you for making that car right again. My appetite for race car preservation ends around the same time as the gas crisis. I really have no nostalgia for 80's style race cars-and I was a teenager in the 80's! The only place I want tubs are in my bathrooms....

Berger stripes are the standard D90 SS ones - without the "split" at the engine size emblem.

Yep, '60's and 70's race graphics are cool . . . . but '80's era, not so much!

I think you did the bright thing restoring that car back to stock. If that car had been a more significant race car, then I might have a different opinion. Old "bracket" cars (IMO) just don't have the following or popularity of an old "class" car. I own an old "stocker" that is un-restored (yes the one in my signature photo) and was raced locally by the dealership my family has a long association with. It seems that when I show the car I get quite a bit more attention than the other nostalgia cars that were not "class" cars or current builds that are done to "appear" nostalgic.
I'm sure that car was important to Tim Phillips and his friends and family, but in the big picture, a Super Pro '69 Camaro isn't nearly as collectible as a Cortez Silver Berger COPO.

I know Tim. He is a well respected mechanic and circle track racer. I will show him this picture and thread next time I get to town.
