WHAT TYPE AND WEIGHT OF OIL IS BEST TO RUN IN A FACTORY ORIGINAL 1970 L78 NOVA? THANKS, JEFF

I use Valvoline VR1 20/50 in my 427. There are several good oils with the required zinc for these engines but most are not available at your local parts store.

I use Brad Penn 20W-50 or 15W-40 in my 69 Z/28. Also Rotella-T 15W-40 is good too.

With Edelbrock Zink additive.

If your motor is built right and your clearances aren't super crazy loose you sure don't need 20-50.
I run Brad Penn 10-30 , on the dyno 20-50 cost 12hp versus the 5-20 I use during racing.
And those were Back to Back 180* oil temp and 160* water temp. So it's an apples to apples comparison.
